Demi Lovato has confirmed that it is okay if you accidentally misgender them - as long as you are trying.

The star took to social media to assure people that as long as they "keep trying to respect my truth" the change in pronouns will come "naturally."

It comes after Lovato shared the news that they identify as non-binary back in May, explaining that they will use the pronouns they/them going forward.

Taking to Instagram to address people misgendering them, Lovato explained they even mistake their pronouns sometimes.

"If you misgender - That's okay. I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It's a huge transition to change the pronouns I've used for myself my entire life. And it's difficult to remember sometimes!" Demi wrote.

"As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, And as long as I remember my truth, the shift will come naturally. I'm just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process."

Alongside the post, Lovato also wrote a caption that explained they "felt the need to post this because I often find that the change in pronouns can be confusing for some, and difficult to remember for others"

"It's all about your intention. It's important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake, it's okay," they added.

Lovato's post comes after pop icon Lizzo corrected paparazzi who misgendered them earlier this month.

In the clip that quickly went viral, paparazzi can be heard asking Lizzo whether she had plans to perform with Lovato while incorrectly using the pronoun "her" to describe Lovato.

Paparazzi then repeated their misgendering of Lovato at which point Lizzo pulled them up on it.

"They," Lizzo corrected the paparazzi. "Have their team contacted you? Demi goes by they."

Lovato responded to Lizzo by sharing the clip to their Instagram stories and writing: "@lizzobeeating you f***ing queen I love you. Thank you."

Just when we thought we couldn't love Lizzo any more!
