Demi Lovato is currently facing a lot of criticism online after they were recently photographed holding a Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar microphone at the iHeartRadio Music Awards...

Which comes just weeks after the star hit out at a store for something very similar.

Things aren't looking so great for Lovato right now!

Here's the full story...

Now, we all know and love Demi Lovato for being a person of many talents...

And they have cemented a firm career for themselves as a singer, songwriter, Disney actor, and producer.

But just like many young Disney stars...

Lovato has had their fair share of struggles over the years.

And they are often praised for their candid and honest approach to the topic.

Lovato also has a history of substance abuse...

And they recently revealed that they are a sufferer of bipolar disorder, an eating disorder, and self-harm.

They have struggled with drug and alcohol addictions since the age of seventeen...

And Lovato was first admitted into rehab at the age of eighteen.

And as the years have gone on, Lovato has decided to speak out about their struggles more and more.

In 2017, they released the YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated.

It followed their day-to-day life and they spoke very candidly about their past drug addiction, battle with their weight, and taking control of their life.

Lovato had previously been sober for nearly 6 years, though their battle with an eating disorder is still ongoing.

"Food is still the biggest challenge in my life," they said in the film after admitting to relapsing and purging that year.

The star has also admitted that their "destructive behavior" stems from their eating disorder.

But back in 2018, just a year on from the documentary, Lovato experienced one of their most life-threatening moments yet.

In July 2018, the actor was found unconscious at their home in Los Angeles after suffering a major overdose.

Following the overdose, the star spent nearly 2 weeks in a hospital before undergoing treatment at a rehab facility and sober living facility for several months.

So, as you can see, Lovato has experienced some very dark times...

But it seems as if the actor is finally embracing their true, authentic self because last month, they came out as non-binary.

"Today is a day I'm so happy to share more of my life with you all - I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward," they wrote on Instagram.

Lovato explained:

"This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work. I'm still learning and coming into myself, and I don't claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me. I'm doing this for those out there that haven't been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way."

Lovato received an overwhelming amount of support following their announcement...

But it seems as if the tables have turned on the star as now, they're facing a lot of criticism online... and it's all over them being photographed holding a Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar microphone at an event over the weekend.

Lovato appeared at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last week and they were seen holding a branded Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar microphone.

Now, this comes just weeks after the star publicly slammed a frozen yogurt company for offering "diet" products that promote "diet culture."

On April 17th, Lovato took to Instagram Stories to explain how they felt "triggered" by a frozen yogurt selection at a local L.A shop.

"Finding it extremely hard to order fro-yo from @TheBiggChillOfficial when you have to walk past tons of sugar-free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter. Do better please," they wrote, along with the hashtag #dietculturevultures.

The frozen yogurt company swiftly responded to Lovato, with them explaining that they carry items for "diabetics, Celiac disease, vegan, and of course, have many indulgent items as well."

Lovato then revealed private messages she had with the shop.

"We are not diet vultures. We cater to all of our customers' needs for the past thirty-six years. We are sorry you found this offensive."

But it was clear Lovato wanted to fuel the argument even more...

And they continued to take to their Instagram Stories to reveal private messages between them and the shop, in which they accused the company repeatedly of being "rude" and "triggering."

Of course, Lovato's attacking of the store didn't go down well with fans...

Which resulted in the singer being forced to issue an apology.

"I'm sorry that I got the messaging wrong. I'm sorry that I may have disappointed some people... I walked into a situation that didn't sit right with me, my intuition said speak up about this, so I did."

Well, it seems as if Lovato is totally fine with Dr. Pepper promoting its diet products!

What do you think about the controversy? Do you think Lovato has been hypocritcal to happily endorse a sugar-free diet when it suits them?
