Demi Lovato has recently objected to people calling extraterrestrials “aliens” as they believe it is “derogatory.”
It comes as they were promoting their new Peacock TV series.
And now they’ve offered a brand new name for them. Have a look for yourselves…
Now, we all know and love Demi Lovato for being a person of many talents…
And they have cemented a firm career for themselves as a singer, songwriter, actor, and producer.
The New Mexico-born actor rose to fame at a very young age.
It all started in 2007 when they played Charlotte Adams on the Disney Channel short series As the Bell Rings.
They went on to star in Disney’s Camp Rock and Sonny With a Chance which propelled them to stardom even more.
After their Disney years, Lovato stepped into the world of music…
And they have released iconic singles such as “Don’t Forget” (2008), “Skyscraper” (2011), “Heart Attack” (2013), and “Sorry Not Sorry” (2017).
The star also has a very strong social media presence…
And they’re often seen using their platform to discuss topics such as politics, LGBTQ+, feminism, and of course, the Black Lives Matter movement.
But just like many young Disney stars…
Lovato has had their fair share of struggles over the years.
The actor has always been open about their struggles with mental health…
And they are often praised for their candid and honest approach to the topic.
Lovato also has a history of substance abuse…
And they revealed that they are a sufferer of bipolar disorder, an eating disorder, and self-harm.
They have struggled with drug and alcohol addictions since the age of seventeen…
And Lovato was first admitted into rehab at the age of eighteen.
Lovato opened up about their mental health for the first time in this infamous interview 9 years ago.
While being interviewed on Good Morning America the star was candid and honest about their mental health struggles, with this interview marking the first time they ever opened up about what had been going on behind closed doors.
And as the years have gone on, Lovato has decided to speak out about their struggles more and more.
In 2017, they released the YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated.
It followed their day-to-day life and they spoke very candidly about their past drug addiction, battle with their weight, and taking control of their life.
Lovato had previously been sober for nearly 6 years, though their battle with an eating disorder is still ongoing.
“Food is still the biggest challenge in my life,” they said in the film after admitting to relapsing and purging that year.
The star has also admitted that their “destructive behavior” stems from their eating disorder.
Their vulnerability and honesty are perhaps why fans feel so connected to Lovato…
Because anyone who has ever gone through this kind of darkness in their life can relate to the singer’s own journey.
But back in 2018, just a year on from the documentary, Lovato experienced one of their most life-threatening moments yet.
In July 2018, the actor was found unconscious at their home in Los Angeles after suffering a major overdose.
They were administered Narcan before being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Following the overdose, the star spent nearly 2 weeks in a hospital before undergoing treatment at a rehab and sober living facility for several months.
The press was made aware of the overdose but as it turns out, it was so much more serious than anyone realized.
Earlier this year, Lovato’s YouTube documentary, Dancing With The Devil, was released…
And the star got seriously candid over how serious their overdose in 2018 was.
“I’ve had so much to say over the past 2 years wanting to set the record straight about what it was that happened.”
“I’ve had a lot of lives. Like my cat, you know? I’m on my 9th life,” they added.
They explained the overdose was that severe, they suffered 3 strokes, a heart attack, and was left with some brain damage.
“I had 3 strokes. I had a heart attack,” they said. “My doctors said that I had 5 to 10 more minutes. I crossed a line that I had never crossed.”
In one harrowing scene, Lovato is even seen in a hospital bed hooked up to a drip during their hospitalization.
Their mother, Dianna De La Garza, is then shown saying: “We’re watching all of her blood come out of her body into a machine.”
Lovato then said to the camera:
“I was left with brain damage and I still feel the effects of that,” adding that they no longer drive because of blurry vision.
So, as you can see, Lovato has experienced some very dark times…
But it seems as if the actor is finally embracing their true, authentic self.
Because they’ve announced they now identify as non-binary.
Writing a statement, the singer told their followers on Instagram:
“Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity and chance to be who we want and wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, and everything in between.”
“Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras.”
“Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all – I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward,” they then wrote.
“This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work. I’m still learning and coming into myself, and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me. I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way.”
Lovato also recently shared another important message regarding their struggle with weight…
“IDK who needs to hear this but complimenting someone on their weight loss can be as harmful as complimenting someone on their weight gain,” they wrote on their Instagram story.
“If you don’t know someone’s history with food, please don’t comment on their body. Because even if your intention is pure, it might leave that person awake at 2 am, overthinking that statement,” they continued.
They admitted while it might feel good at the time, it can cause them to start thinking: “Well damn. What’d they think of my body before?”
Lovato is now back on our screen with a new series…
Unidentified with Demi Lovato.
Their new Peacock TV series will follow Lovato and their friend, Matthew, and sister, Dallas as they look at extra terrestrials.
Split over 4 series, the show will follow them as they search for “the truth about the UFO phenomena,” LadBible reports.
While promoting the show, Lovato spoke about their thoughts on the word alien.
As they revealed they believe it is a “derogatory term.”
In an interview with Pedestrian TV, Lovato explained that they believe we should change our language when talking about extra terrestrials.
“I really think that if there was anything out there that would want to do that to us, it would have happened by now,” they said.
“But, I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything.”
“That’s why I like to call them ETs! So yeah, that’s a little tidbit. A little information that I learned.”
What do you think about the “new” name?
