While being interviewed on Good Morning America the star was candid and honest about their mental health struggles, with this interview marking the first time they ever opened up about what had been going on behind closed doors.

And as the years have gone on, Lovato has decided to speak out about their struggles more and more.

In 2017, they released the YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated.
It followed their day-to-day life and they spoke very candidly about their past drug addiction, battle with their weight, and taking control of their life.

“Food is still the biggest challenge in my life,” they said in the film after admitting to relapsing and purging that year.
The star has also admitted that their “destructive behavior” stems from their eating disorder.

Because anyone who has ever gone through this kind of darkness in their life can relate to the singer’s own journey.

But back in 2018, just a year on from the documentary, Lovato experienced one of their most life-threatening moments yet.

In July 2018, the actor was found unconscious at their home in Los Angeles after suffering a major overdose.
They were administered Narcan before being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Following the overdose, the star spent nearly 2 weeks in a hospital before undergoing treatment at a rehab and sober living facility for several months.

The press was made aware of the overdose but as it turns out, it was so much more serious than anyone realized.

Earlier this year, Lovato’s YouTube documentary, Dancing With The Devil, was released…

And the star got seriously candid over how serious their overdose in 2018 was.

“I’ve had so much to say over the past 2 years wanting to set the record straight about what it was that happened.”

“I’ve had a lot of lives. Like my cat, you know? I’m on my 9th life,” they added.

They explained the overdose was that severe, they suffered 3 strokes, a heart attack, and was left with some brain damage.

“I had 3 strokes. I had a heart attack,” they said. “My doctors said that I had 5 to 10 more minutes. I crossed a line that I had never crossed.”

In one harrowing scene, Lovato is even seen in a hospital bed hooked up to a drip during their hospitalization.

Their mother, Dianna De La Garza, is then shown saying: “We’re watching all of her blood come out of her body into a machine.”

So, as you can see, Lovato has experienced some very dark times…

And since then, they have revealed that they no longer support their “California sober ways.”

During their Dancing with the Devil documentary, they stated that they were “California sober,” meaning they only drank alcohol and smoked marijuana in moderation…

This was due to the severe overdose and concerns over a possible relapse if they were cut off completely from drugs and alcohol.

During the documentary, they explained: “Telling myself that I can never have a drink or smoke marijuana, I feel like that’s setting myself up for failure because I am such a black and white thinker.”

“You shouldn’t be forced to get sober if you’re not ready,” they continued, stating that everyone has their own ways of dealing with addiction. “You shouldn’t get sober for other people. You have to do it for yourself.”

But it looks like that won’t cut it for the star…

As they recently admitted that being “California sober” just isn’t working for them.

And people are fully backing their decision…

But the latest Demi news is a bit more on the spooky side.

As television footage has emerged of Lovato singing to a ‘ghost’ after it supposedly revealed it had experienced trauma caused by sexism.

The performance earned Demi an apparent standing ovation.

The footage is part of Lovato’s TV show, Unidentified With Demi Lovato, in which she delves deeper into her fascination with the supernatural.

The trio came across ‘a spirit who has past trauma with men’.

The encounter took place in an abandoned brothel after they set up an EMF detector – a special device that lets out a noise whenever communication is made.

The two men on the show then suggested Lovato sang to the spirit.

So she did, singing a rendition of Skyscraper. And at the end of the song, the EMF detector made a noise, which the men concluded was a standing ovation…
