The iconic DJ and musician Sophie has tragically died aged just 34.

Sophie, who worked with such legends as Madonna and Charli XCX, passed away this morning at around 4am in Athens.

Now, Sophie's cause of death has been confirmed.

The legendary DJ and producer, Sophie, has tragically passed away.

She died suddenly.

At around 4am this morning in Athens, Greece.

Sophie was a Grammy-nominated artist.

Who had worked with some of the biggest names in the industry.

Sophie worked with so many huge names.

Including the likes of Madonna, Rihanna, Charli XCX, Vince Staples, and Itzy.

But that's not all.

Sophie also worked with Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Flume.

Sophie had always been interested in music.

Ever since she was just a child growing up in Glasgow, Scotland, listening to her father's cassette tapes.

She became a big star early on.

However she is not only regarded as a musical icon, but as a trans icon too.

She was also the first openly trans artist to be nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the Grammy's.

And Sophie initially kept her identity hidden, going only by SOPHIE.

Her real name, Sophie Xeon, was only revealed later on.

With the release of the music video for It's Okay to Cry" in 2017.

Her death was confirmed by her team earlier today.

They released a statement which read:

It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident.

"At this time respect and privacy for the family is our priority."

"We would also ask for respect for her fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news with sensitivity."

The statement continued:

"SOPHIE was a pioneer of a new sound, one of the most influential artists in the last decade."

"Not only for ingenious production and creativity but also for the message and visibility that was achieved. An icon of liberation."

Record label Numbers also confirmed the news on Twitter.

They wrote:

"SOPHIE was a true inspiration, the World has lost an icon of liberation. We are devastated. Our thoughts are with SOPHIE's family and friends at this time. Rest in peace."

Transgressive Records also tweeted paying their respects.

They wrote that Sophie died following a tragic accident.

Tributes have also been pouring in from friends and fans across the globe.

Initially details around her cause of death were unknown.

And all that has been reported was that her death was a result of a tragic accident.

Some outlets reported.

That before Sophie's death was confirmed, her friends were asking for blood donations to a hospital in Athens.

But now the cause has been confirmed.

After her reps announced that Sophie 'climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell'.

So tragic.
