Dogs truly are one of the purest creatures on earth, but one of the most devastating parts about having a four-legged friend is that they are only with us for a small portion of our lives.

These adorable creatures are basically the best things on earth. If you’re ever feeling down in the dumps, a dog is guaranteed to make you feel better.

Whether they’re causing mischief, giving us those puppy eyes when they want a treat, or taking up the entire sofa, many of us couldn’t live without our furry friends.

It’s hard to imagine a life without having a pooch to come home to.

In an age where the internet is so divided, there’s one thing we can all agree on…

How utterly amazing (and adorable) our four-legged friends are.

From lifting your mood to even giving you a bit of company – they’re truly an adorable addition to the family.

Our precious pooches are only with us for a portion of our lives.

The average life span of a dog is just ten to thirteen years.

Goldheart Golden Retrievers Rescue in Tennessee – who had previously helped find a home for Augie – confirmed the news this week.

And had 2 previous homes before settling with owners Jennifer and Stever Hetterscheidt in Oakland, California, who took her at fourteen-years-old.

But Augie has almost doubled that.

“At twenty years old, she’s just about doubled the expected lifespan for golden retrievers and she’s still kicking.”

“She’s lived so long largely because she’s got great genetics, but also her owner, Jennifer, has done a great job of taking care of her and ensuring that they have a good relationship with Augie’s vet,” staff wrote.

“At 20 years old, Augie is the oldest golden retriever in history! “There are many accounts of 17 or 18-year-old goldens, and even a few stories about 19-year-old goldens, but Augie is the first golden retriever to ever reach the big two-oh.” For another adorable dog story, scroll on…
