Dolly Parton has been voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 alongside Eminem and Lionel Richie.
The inductees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 were announced this morning.
Joining Dolly Parton among the inductees are Eminem, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, and Carly Simon.
According to The New York Times, performers must have released their first record more than twenty-five years before in order to be considered for induction.
Those nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are voted for by more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry professionals, the outlet reports.
Parton’s induction comes after she said, back in March, that she must “respectfully bow out.”
Parton said that although she is “extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated,” she didn’t feel she had “earned that right.”
However, it was too late as ballots had already been sent out, the outlet reports.
Thankfully though, it seems that Parton’s had a change of heart since then because as she spoke to NPR last week, she said she would accept her induction should it happen.
“I would just say thanks and I’ll accept it because the fans vote,” she explained. “But when I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music, and I have found out lately that it’s not necessarily that. But if they can’t go there to be recognized, where do they go?”
“So I just felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me, because I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”
The induction ceremony will take place in November.
Congratulations to Dolly Parton and all of the other inductees!
