The deadly coronavirus, or COVID-19, as medical experts are referring to it, has taken our planet hostage, and is showing no signs of letting go anytime soon.

According to the World Health Organization, COVID-19 is a new strain of coronaviruses that had not been previously been identified in humans.

And common symptoms include fever, coughing, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties.

And in patients who are elderly and have existing health issues, the virus can lead to pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

208,582, to be precise. And, devastatingly, a staggering 8,312 more have been reported to have died from the illness.

And many have been asking the same thing – Where did this virus actually come from?

On December 31st, 2019, China alerted the World Health Organization of several flu-like cases in Wuhan.

Many different theories have been proposed, but it is now widely believed to have originated from the sale of meat from wild animals, especially bats, where the virus has been discovered in the past.

The virus was alarmingly quick to spread, with cases being reported as far away as Thailand just one week later.

Which was done in an attempt to combat the virus and enable countries to put in strict measures to prevent any further spread.

Because, fast forward 3 months, and nearly every major country in the world has been infected by the virus, with some of the worst affected being Japan, South Korea, Russia, Italy, Iran, and Spain.

And many have banned large and crowded events, and any travel to and from infected countries.

Leaving their streets completely deserted.

Our first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Washington in late January after a citizen returned from a trip to China.

Since the first COVID-19 patient in Washington, there have been 7,636 more confirmed cases across the country and 171 deaths.

And, last week, President Trump declared a national emergency to combat the coronavirus pandemic, freeing up $50 billion in federal funding and promising a screening website and drive-by tests.

Because, up until then, he had been worryingly relaxed about the whole situation.

Trump has been resorting to his usual tactics, such as blaming the panic on the “Fake News Media”.

And suggested that, because nowhere closed down over the flu, nowhere should close over the coronavirus.

But it’s been a severe endangerment to the lives of millions of people all over the country. So many Americans are still being denied the right to health care during this daunting time – Something seriously needs to change.

And his most recent public address has fared no differently.

advertisement

Where he simply told Americans to “relax”, adding that “we’re doing great” and have “tremendous control” of the virus.

Which is funny considering that our coronavirus cases are rising every single day. “We’re learning from watching other countries, frankly. This is a very contagious virus, it’s incredible, but it’s something that we have tremendous control over.”

As you can imagine, people were not impressed.

And actor, Chris Evans, was one of them.

Where he wrote: “The president just ran off stage after his rambling press conference without answering a single question. America wants answers. America wants leadership. America doesn’t want a president who runs off stage during a crisis and lets Mike Pence do all the talking.”

Because his most recent speech has received the utmost praise and respect.

To which he replied: “We love them, we’re with them, we will not let them down!”

And he has finally shown some solidarity with his country. This is the kind of President we need.
