It has just been announced that Donald Trump has been impeached as president of the United States.

Here's the full story...

Now, it's certainly been a strange few years...

No one could quite believe what they were hearing when the notorious business tycoon announced his plans to run for president during the 2016 presidential campaigns.

But, remarkably, it wasn't a publicity stunt.

Donald Trump was being deadly serious about his bid for his place in the White House, and kicked off his campaign with an array of promises, such as building a wall along the border of Mexico, allowing all American's the right to bear arms, and to, of course, "make America great again."

And when it came round to election day...

The world awoke on November 9th to see that America officially had its new leader - President Donald Trump.

Trump immediately threw himself into the role of president of the United States...

And it's certainly been up and down.

Trump has sparked his fair share of outrage, imposing a temporary travel ban on Muslims entering and leaving the U.S. and banning transgender people from the military, just for example.

But he also passed a bill that makes animal cruelty a federal crime, and unemployment in the country was at an all-time low at just 3.6 percent.

The president is certainly no stranger to criticism and controversy.

Much of his behavior while acting as president has been questioned, with many calling for him to be impeached, and even removed from office entirely.

And, last year...

Trump underwent an impeachment trial on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

And even though the Senate acquitted Trump of these charges on February 5, 2020, the impeachment left a nasty stain on the president's reputation.

And, to make things even worse...

Getty

Shortly after the impeachment charges were dropped, the world was hit by the coronavirus pandemic which Trump went on to handle awfully.

The president insisted over and over to us all how "harmless" the virus was...

Getty

Despite catching it himself in October and seeing more than 390,000 American people die.

Of course, the people of America were left grieving and feeling angry...

Getty

But of course, this didn't stop Trump from running as president for a second term in last year's 2020 elections.

Trump's presidential campaign was as chaotic as we'd all expected...

Getty

And in comparison to Democratic candidate Joe Biden's toned-down campaign, Trump seemed to be desperately grasping at straws.

He was clearly in panic mode...

Getty

And right up until November 3rd, when the votes started to get counted, Trump continued to spread lies about Biden and his campaign team in a desperate bid to be reelected.

But these efforts were to little avail.

On November 7th, it was confirmed that Joe Biden had won the election by amassing 284 electoral college seats to Trump's 214.

It was a clear and fair win for Biden and vice president-elect, Kamala Harris...

But Trump refused to see it this way and, instead, went on to repeatedly accuse Biden and his team of election fraud.

According to Trump, the Republicans were real winners of the election.

Trump's refusal to concede to Biden only poured more fuel on his army of angry supporters...

Getty

And this lead to the shocking scenes at the U.S Capitol building on January 6th.

At a "Save America" rally held in Washington D.C, the president encouraged his supporters to "fight for their country"...

Which lead to thousands of them flocking to the Capitol building and breaking in to cause total and utter havoc.

Chants could be heard saying, "Stop the steal!"...

Getty

And terrifying scenes soon started to unfold, with angry rioters looting personal and valuable items from the offices and chambers as members of Congress were quietly evacuated from the building.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was a clear target...

Getty

With numerous rioters breaking into her office, destroying her name board outside her office, and even stealing her lectern.

Horrifying text messages were later discovered showing how one Trump supporter had plans to "shoot her" and then "run her over."

It was history in the making...

And it was also, undeniably, the biggest security breach our country has faced since 9/11.

5 people were confirmed to have died during the violent riot...

And during all of this, calls were repeatedly made for Trump to put a stop to the madness... but they were to little avail.

Trump eventually issued a series of small tweets asking for his supporters to simply "go home"...

And he down-right refused to take any responsibility for the riot, despite him being the one who encouraged his supporters to literally "fight back" earlier that day.

This lead to Trump being suspended indefinitely from all major social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

Of course, we all know how much Trump loved to run his mouth on Twitter so this was a huge deal.

Along with the social media ban, Trump's lack of concern over his supporter's violence got Congress talking...

Getty

And Nancy Pelosi, along with many other members of Congress, began to prepare a vote to impeach President Trump over his role in the riots.

And even though Vice-President Mike Pence refused to invoke the 25th amendment, which is what would have removed Trump from office immediately...

The votes have spoken.

President Donald Trump has officially been impeached.

Getty

The news has just come in that the House has voted on an article of impeachment that accuses Trump of "incitement of insurrection", with ten republicans reportedly supporting the move.

Trump becomes the first president in history to be impeached twice.

The final vote was 232-197, as per The Guardian. The matter will now go before the Senate, which will decide whether Trump should be convicted and removed from office.

This is a breaking story, and updates will be posted accordingly.
