Donald Trump plans to run for the presidential election in 2024, and it looks like he has back up if he changes his mind. Although, the revelation hasn't come without it's controversy.
Here are all the details...
Matt Gaetz has been pretty vocal about his plans for the next election...
But it looks like Trump might just beat him to the punch.
Evidently undeterred by his election loss in November...
The former president has spoken out about his plans to re-run for president in 2024.
It all started when Trump appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February where he gave his first speech since leaving office.
He first addressed the rumors about starting a new political party, saying:
"I am not starting a new party. That was fake news. We're not starting new parties. You know, they kept saying, 'He's going to start a brand new party.' We have the Republican Party. It's going to unite and be stronger than ever before."
He then dropped his first hint at re-running for president.
"Who knows. I may decide to beat them for a third time," he said, adding that he "may" decide to run.
Speaking about the "incredible journey," he added that "it is far from over."
"We will be victorious and America will be stronger and greater than ever before."
Of course, many took Trump's ambitious comments with a pinch of salt...

Because surely he won't be running for president again... Right?
President Biden doesn't seem to think so, anyway.

When asked recently about the prospect of a Trump 2024 campaign, Biden had simply scoffed at the idea, saying:
"Oh, come on. I don't even think about it - I have no idea. I have no idea if there will be a Republican Party. Do you?"
Well, it looks like even if Trump doesn't run, Matt Gaetz has plans to take his place...
The congressman made the announcement on Wednesday in a message to the New York Post.
And people have a lot to say...
"I support Donald Trump for president. I've directly encouraged him to run and he gives me every indication he will," Gaetz wrote.
"If Trump doesn't run, I'm sure I could defeat whatever remains of Joe Biden by 2024."
Gaetz's associate, Joel Greenberg, pleaded guilty to 6 federal charges, including paying for intercourse from a minor just last week...
So, Matt Gaetz has several strikes against him. Not only is he going to get arrested for sex trafficking, etc., he's also complicit in the 1/6 attack on the Capitol. He supported, aided and abetted the attack. This guy is going through some big stuff and it's not letting up soon.— 🌎 The Tao of Kat 🌎 (@kathrynresister) May 21, 2021
And many feel that Greenberg taking a plea deal may be a problem for Gaetz.
Gaetz has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing against his name...
Why hasn’t Matt Gaetz been charged & arrested yet?!— WizardOfWords (@AssusReamus) May 21, 2021
A source speaking to the New York Post claims Gaetz wants to run for president as a way to help out Governor Ron DeSantis.
The source told the New York Post that "[Mr DeSantis] might like someone else on the debate stage who can torch his opponents and lay down ground cover for him."
Gaetz's involvement in presidential politics will depend on the outcome of the ongoing federal investigation involving Greenberg.
If it comes out that he was involved in Greenberg's criminal activities, it will negatively impact DeSantis to be involved with him.
One group against DeSantis, called Ron Be Gone, already began using the connection to ruin his 2022 re-election chances.
Another friend of Gaetz who could be used against him is Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene...
Whose behavior has earned her condemnation from either side.
Both Gaetz and Greene have said any criticism is an attack from the "Deep State."
