The Home Alone franchise truly sums up the festivities, with many watching the flick to get into the Christmas spirit, and of course, several broadcasters airing the popular movies on TV.

But, when Home Alone 2 aired in Canada recently, viewers noticed something different.

Set just a year after Kevin was left home alone and had to keep a pair of pesky burglars at bay, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York hit screens.

This time, he finds himself stranded in the city that never sleeps.

The sequel saw the original cast reprise their much-loved roles, and despite not receiving as many positive ratings as the original, there's no doubt fans still appreciated the movie.

Of course, it's that time of year where the movies are shown on TV.

But a recent broadcast of Home Alone 2 has been causing quite a stir.

You may have forgotten, but there's a pretty famous cameo in the movie...

No other than President Trump makes an appearance.

The scene shows Trump walking through the Plaza Hotel in New York City - which he owned at the time - as actor Macaulay Culkin's character stops him to ask for directions.

The president has been pretty vocal about his cameo in the hit movie.

In fact, Trump recently mentioned his appearance on the beloved holiday film while talking to military members in a teleconference on Christmas Eve."Well, I'm in 'Home Alone 2,' and a lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas," he said. "They say 'I just saw you.' Especially young kids, they say, 'I just saw you on the movie.' They don't see me on television as they do in the movie. But it's been a good movie and I was a little bit younger, to put it mildly, and it was an honor to do it."

But when a broadcaster in Canada aired the holiday classic recently...

Viewers were left stunned when they noticed something very different.

The scene featuring Trump had seemingly been cut out.

And as you'd expect, Twitter exploded with viewers airing their opinions on the controversial decision.

Many were overjoyed...

For some, it was the moment they'd been waiting for.

Some even called for him to be cut from other broadcasts he has appeared in.

Like this user, who hailed the decision as being a "great start."

Although others were less than impressed.

The decision to cut the 7-second clip proved very controversial.

Some branded the move as "petty."

Several pointed out that his brief cameo in the holiday movie has nothing to do with politics.

But of course, everyone has been waiting to see what the president himself would say.

On Thursday, the President delivered.

He took to Twitter to have his say on the issue.

He started out by tweeting this:

The President referred to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the USMCA trade deal between Mexico, Canada, and the US, and his complaints about NATO in the response, Insider reports. 

He then followed the not-so-cryptic message up with another tweet:
