The highly anticipated sequel, Coming 2 America, finally has a release date, but fans aren’t happy for a very big reason.
There’s been an update on Eddie Murphy’s anticipated Coming To America sequel…
And fans have had a lot to say on the news.
A prolific actor, comedian, writer, singer, and producer, who rose to stardom specifically on Saturday Night Live.
Murphy was the voice of Donkey in Shrek, a multi-million dollar movie franchise. This introduced him to a whole new generation of fans thanks to his oh-so-recognizable voice.
But perhaps his most famous role was in Beverly Hills Cop.
The ’84 classic has not aged a day, as one would hope. Some say it can be credited with bringing Murphy’s name into the mainstream.
And has starred in just 4 live-action flicks.
The star is returning to our screens once again in a sequel to the smash hit 1988 comedy, Coming To America.
Directed by John Landis, the original Coming To America saw Murphy star as the African prince Akeem…
Who travels to New York City after being faced with the prospect of an arranged marriage.
And grossed nearly $300 million in worldwide revenue.
That’s some big bucks!
A long-awaited sequel was announced.
But, he discovers he has a secret son in America — a street-smart New Yorker named Lavelle.
Including James Earl Jones, who will be reprising his role as Akeem’s father, King Jaffe Joffer.
A whole host of movies have been pushed back, falling victim to cancelations and delays.
But there’s been a change of plan.
The streaming giant reportedly coughed up an eye-watering $125 million for the deal
But, when the news surfaced, fans had a lot to say on the decision to skip theaters altogether…
Coming 2 America is expected to premiere on the streaming service on December 18.
