### Elton John: The Icon Who Keeps on Singing

Elton John has joked that there’s “not much” of him left after years of health struggles.

The legendary singer opened up during a speech at the premiere of his new documentary, *Elton John: Never Too Late*.

This film reflects on his incredible 50-year career as he prepares for his final concert at Dodger Stadium.

“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left,” John quipped, keeping the mood light.

He referenced the philosophical ‘Ship of Theseus’ trope, noting his extensive surgeries.

“I don’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix,” he said, eliciting laughter from the audience.

“I don’t have a prostate, a right hip, or a left knee,” he continued, listing his ailments.

“In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip.”

Despite the litany of health issues, John remained upbeat: “But I’m still here.”

“And I can’t thank you enough; you’re the people that made me.”

The singer’s health history is a testament to his resilience.

Over the years, he has faced numerous challenges, including knee and hip replacement surgeries.

Just last month, John battled a severe eye infection that impacted his vision.

In the 1990s, he had a pacemaker fitted to correct an irregular heartbeat.

His health issues didn’t stop there; he was hospitalized for a bacterial infection in 2009.

In 2013, an abscess was found on his appendix, and by 2016, he was suffering from gastric flu.

Years of relentless touring have taken their toll, particularly on his hearing.

The sustained exposure to loud music has left him grappling with hearing loss.

“As you know, I decided to stop touring because I’m 77 years of age,” he announced.

“I’ve done all there is to do, to play. I’ve succeeded. I’ve been there and I’ve done it.”
But what led to these extensive health challenges?

John has always been a larger-than-life figure, celebrated for his flamboyant style and musical genius.

However, the rock-and-roll lifestyle has a steep price.

For decades, John toured relentlessly, performing for adoring fans worldwide.

The rigors of travel, coupled with a high-pressure industry, took a toll on his body. Yet, through all the adversity, he remained dedicated to his craft.
