Emma Stone learned that the hard way recently…
One of the actress’ jokes during the Golden Globes ended up making headlines.
To make matters even worse, the joke was about one of America’s sweethearts, Taylor Swift.
But, despite making a joke about Swift back in January, Stone wants the world to know they’re still good.
In a new interview with Variety alongside Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos, the actress opened up about what followed her Golden Globes joke.
The 35-year-old said she was hit with backlash from Swifties after calling the singer an “a–hole” in January.
“I definitely won’t make a joke like that again,” Emma insisted.
“Because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context,” she continued.
Stone made headlines on January 7 after she took home the Best Actress trophy for her role in Poor Things.
When the star’s name was announced as the winner, the “Karma” singer and her friend Keleigh Sperry gave Emma a standing ovation.
The joke…
“What an a–hole, am I right?” Stone joked about Swift backstage when asked about her support.
“I’ve known her for almost 20 years, so I’m very happy she was there,” she said of Taylor.
“She was also nominated tonight, so I’m very happy she was there — but what an a–hole,” she joked.
Unsurprisingly, fans didn’t take well to Emma calling her friend that, but the actress insists it was all in good fun.
She also clarified that she will never make a joke like that again after seeing how the public reacted.
Their history
Emma Stone and Taylor Swift have been close friends ever since they first met in 2008 at the Young Hollywood Awards.
Though they haven’t exactly talked much about their relationship, publicly, they have been seen together multiple times.
The two of them were even spotted together at the NYC premiere of Stone’s film Poor Things in December.
Emma told Vanity Fair in June that Swift has helped her secure tickets to her sold-out Eras Tour.
“I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time,” Stone said of the singer.
“I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get,” she gushed.
“She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind,” Stone added of Taylor.
Taylor Swift is currently in Australia performing even more shows on her Eras Tour.
This comes after she watched her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, win the Super Bowl for the second year in a row.
The singer made her way to Las Vegas after performing in Japan the night before, supporting her man as he led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory.
Even though the NFL season is over, Kelce still had some commitments in Vegas, staying in sin city while his girlfriend went back overseas.
But, on February 22, it was reported that Travis finally made his way to Australia to be with his girlfriend.
Kelce already sent Swift multiple, lavish Valentine’s Day gifts last week, but the pair might have a late celebration now that they’re reunited.
Despite their busy schedules, it seems like they’re doing just fine making it work.
Plus, with the NFL offseason happening for the next few months, it seems like Travis will be able to support his girlfriend at her concerts a lot more.
