We all look at our dads as superheroes, right? They live to keep us safe.
Well, these dads have gone above and beyond for not only their own children but an entire school of children at a high school in Louisiana…
A group of forty dads have formed a “Dads on Duty” alliance in hope that they’ll help combat violence in a high school in Louisiana.
Let’s be honest here, we’ve all been to school, and we’ve all experienced a fight breaking out in the hall at some point.
But at this school, there have been a series of fights breaking out between students so the dads decided to get involved.
When twenty-three students were arrested over the course of just 3 days at Southwood High School in Shreveport, it became evident that somebody needed to step in.
But it wasn’t just one person that stepped in…
And, although the dads have no experience in school counseling, they do have a whole bunch of dad jokes available to keep the fights to a minimum. And so far, it seems to be working!
Seriously though, just by patrolling the halls, and sharing a few jokes here and there, these dads have made the kids feel both happy and safe…
Founder of the group Michael LaFitte told CBS just why they decided to form the “Dads on Duty” group, saying: “We’re dads. We decided the best people who can take care of our kids are who? …Us.”
And Louisiana has never seen anything like it, but it most certainly has melted the hearts of the children at the school…
Oh, and guess what? There have been no fights since the dads have been strolling around, giving the children somebody new to look up to, and actually, look forward to going to school every day!
This is especially important because the Heartland Institute shared that in 2020 schools in the district of Lousiana were having trouble keeping children safe. And, so, if it takes dads stepping in to change this, they’re willing to do whatever it takes!
So, what’s next for these superheroes?
It sounds like they’re planning to go on tour…
As well as committing to Southwood Highschool with Lafitte saying: “Not everybody has a father figure at home – or a male, period, in their life. So just to be here makes a big difference,” the “Dads on Duty” crew are also hoping to make their debut in other schools around Louisiana too!
Yes to that! We need to see more of this.
