Alina Fernandez, daughter of the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, has shown her support towards James Franco for playing the role of her father in the new movie Alina of Cuba.

Alina Fernandez opened up to Deadline about how she feels about Franco playing her dad.
“James Franco obviously has an obvious physical resemblance with Fidel Castro, besides his skills and charisma,” said Fernandez.

She also stated that she is proud “that the project is almost entirely Latino, both in front and behind the camera.”
Fernandez explained that she is pleased to hear that an actor like Ana Villafane is playing her in the upcoming independent movie.

That being said, many people online have expressed their issue with Franco being the one to play the Cuban dictator.
Fans want to see the Cuban dictator played by a Latino actor and have suggested the likes of Pedro Pascal, Oscar Isaac, or Diego Luna to take on the role.
While Franco does have Portuguese heritage running through his blood from his mother’s side — it is a country that’s Latin status is often debated.
He’s caucasian, has Swedish heritage, and is Jewish.
Despite the negativity Franco has faced in the past few weeks for playing a Latino character due to his heritage, Fidel Castro’s daughter has showed her support for Franco.
