It's 2021, and the world has never been so progressive - particularly when it comes to gendered clothing. But not everybody is happy about this new trend ...

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years...

You'll understand that we're finally breaking out of the gender binaries that have confined us for too long.

Gender has become steadily more fluid in recent years...

And more and more people are identifying as gender-neutral, or non-binary.

Just to break it down for you...

The idea that there are only two genders is sometimes called a “gender binary," because binary means “having two parts." Therefore, people use the term “non-binary" to describe genders that don’t fall into one of these two more traditional categories of male or female.

And it's amazing to see people finally feel comfortable with their gender expression.

But not everybody thinks so ...

Celebs such as Harry styles are pioneers of the movement.

Earlier this month, he rocked the Brit Awards red carpet carrying a Gucci handbag.

And that's not his only foray into more stereotypically feminine styles.

He famously wore a variety of feather boas at the Grammy's back in March.

Meanwhile recent Eurovision winner Damiano David also embraces this modern aesthetic.

Rocking looks from mini skirts ...

To crop tops and jewelry.

And looking great while doing so, might we add.

Billy Porter explained the change in attitude to the Daily Star.

"Men and women are both becoming more comfortable with genderless fashion."

"Genderless fashion comes and goes, with the '80s bringing some memorable androgynous looks."

"We're now currently in an exciting and experimental stage of style again"

Stylist Miranda Holder agrees.

"Idols like Styles are not afraid to experiment and break the traditional gender fashion codes, and why not?! Why should women have all the fashion fun?"

And although celebrities have a big sway in starting the trend, Billy claims there's another reason it's taking off ...

"Celebrities and the famous have a huge sway over what becomes popular, but their power can only go so far with the average person on Instagram."

"What's really making a radical difference on how we view gender norms and fashion fluidity is 'internet famous' people online."

"Seeing Harry Styles rock a handbag may look great, but there's still a divide between 'us' and 'them', a thought that things are acceptable for the famous, but not for us."

"But with social media, we're seeing more and more fashion influencers guide fashion trend in more exciting directions, and the general public view them as not famous and out of reach, but just like us."

Miranda offered her predictions for how this style will continue over the summer.

"You can expect to see more trends blurring the fashion boundaries between men and women fashion such as statement jewellery, embellished fabrics, lace and leopard print featuring more prominently in mens collections from high end to high street."

"Other trends to look out for this summer include oversized shirts, shorts worn as part of a suit, safari jackets and for the brave or old-fashioned - socks with sandals!"

We're absolutely here for this trend!
