There's a little more to Mr. Clooney than just charm and good looks.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, George Clooney is known to be one of the world's best actors.

He started out in the industry pretty early on all thanks to his cousin.

Clooney's close cousin got him a little role in a feature film and that made him want to pursue a fully-fledged career in the world of TV and film.

Fast forward a few decades and he has now become a household name.

Behind him stands an impressive track record of notorious work including From Dusk Till Dawn, Ocean's Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen, and Syriana.

But besides his impressive professional life, he is also known for his charity work.

The actor famously founded Not On Our Watch with his Ocean’s Eleven co-stars, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt, and producer Jerry Weintraub, an organization that aims to stop the genocide in Sudan.

His charity has donated millions of dollars to help those suffering in the region...

With much of the funding going through the United Nations World Food Programme.

And remember when he did this?

One of the actor's longtime friends, Rande Gerber, recently told MSNBC that Clooney had invited his closest friends over for dinner one night only to surprise them each with a lavish gift...

Suitcases each filled with a million dollars.

Extravagant doesn't even describe it.

Clooney spoke out on the rumors to set the record straight.

In a profile with GQ, the actor told the full story of that now-famous gift giving - and it turns out it actually happened.

Clooney explained how the gesture happened just before the premiere of Gravity in 2013.

The movie wound up being a "very good deal" for him, he said, because he was paid based on percentages of box-office revenue.

At the time, he and his wife, Amal, hadn't yet dated, so he had no immediate family relying on his income.

So he decided to give a little back to those closest to him. He explained: "And I thought, what I do have are these guys who've all, over a period of thirty-five-years, helped me in one way or another."

Clooney selected fourteen of his "closest friends" who had helped him before his fame and success.

He elaborated: "I've slept on their couches when I was broke. They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years. And I've helped them over the years."

These people were all already in his will...

So why wait? "We're all good friends, and I thought, you know, without them, I don't have any of this. And we're all really close, and I just thought basically if I get hit by a bus, they're all in the will. So why the f*** am I waiting to get hit by a bus?"

He quickly came up with the suitcase-full-of-cash idea, but he then needed to figure out how to get $14 million in cash all at once.

Well, according to GQ, Clooney's research led him to "an undisclosed location" in Los Angeles where pallets of cash are held for sale. "So Clooney got an old beat-up van that said 'Florist' on it, like he was in a heist movie, and he drove downtown, and he got in an elevator with the florist's van, and he took the van down to the vault and loaded it up with cash," the GQ reporter Zach Baron wrote in the profile. "He told no one but his assistant 'and a couple of security guys that were s****ing themselves.'"

And when it came to the actual dinner party...

Clooney gave a heartwarming speech about how much they had meant to him and said he wanted to give back, before presenting them with the suitcases. "We open it up, and it's $1 million in $20 bills," Gerber told MSNBC. "Every one of us - fourteen of us - got a million dollars. Every single one of us. We were in shock. Like, 'What is this?'"

I think shocked was an understatement...

But as you can see, Clooney seems to be a pretty well-rounded man on and off-screen, so it's no wonder why he has so many fans.

But recently, they were hit with some terrible news.

The actor had been rushed to hospital after a serious health concern.

Well wishes poured in for him as soon as the news was revealed...

But what was the reason for this outcome?

Well, it all started while he was preparing for his latest role in The Midnight Sky.

As I mentioned before, the actor takes all of his roles seriously.

So in order to go above and beyond to prepare for the part of Augustine, who was battling advanced cancer, Clooney decided to go to extreme lengths in order to portray the role as accurately as possible.

He put himself on an extreme diet...

Which has had devastating effects on his health overall.

Within a few weeks, he had already dropped a whopping twenty-eight pounds.

And not only that, he was constantly doubled over with stomach pains as well as feeling dizzy.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said this:

"I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn't taking care of myself," he told the outlet.

Later on he found out that the intense pain was pancreatitis...

Which is a serious inflammation of the pancreas. Clooney spent a few days in hospital until he was released but the recovery process took "a few weeks."

He told The Tab how this affected his preparation...

"We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder work. But it certainly helped with the character." Thankfully he had some extra time to re-cooperate as the pandemic hit and slowed down production.

The Midnight Sky hits Netflix and select theaters on December 23rd.
