And this brings us back to this week's tragic story.
Upon the news, parents all across the country were left absolutely sickened.
A 4-year-old girl was found walking around New York City by herself at night.
The girl, whose name was later confirmed to be Sidaya, was picked up by NYPD officers on Saturday on East 156 Street in the Bronx.
Initially, the police struggled to track down Sidaya's parents or caregivers, despite multiple posts online.
The little girl was then placed in NYC's Administration for Children's Services, while the search for her family continued.
Police released surveillance footage showing the girl walking with a woman shortly before she was found by police.
The woman can be seen walking a few yards in front.
She can be seen waiting for the girl to catch up before they both move out of view.
The NYPD said they weren't sure whether the woman had any connection to the child or whether she was just concerned for her wellbeing.
But now, there has been an update in the case.
