The mother of the 4-year-old girl who was found wandering around New York City alone at night has been identified and arrested.

Here’s the full story…

Now, it’s a heartwrenching reality that so many children don’t have a permanent home…

Which is especially a problem here in the United States.

And to make things even more tragic, these children are in foster care due to no fault of their own.

But often, children are removed from abusive or neglectful family homes for their own safety and wellbeing – which is sadly becoming a common occurrence.

But something that can be even more traumatic?

Because believe it or not, so many children get completely abandoned and left alone by their parents or guardians.

And this brings us back to this week’s tragic story.

Upon the news, parents all across the country were left absolutely sickened.

A 4-year-old girl was found walking around New York City by herself at night.

The girl, whose name was later confirmed to be Sidaya, was picked up by NYPD officers on Saturday on East 156 Street in the Bronx.

Initially, the police struggled to track down Sidaya’s parents or caregivers, despite multiple posts online.

The little girl was then placed in NYC’s Administration for Children’s Services, while the search for her family continued.

Police released surveillance footage showing the girl walking with a woman shortly before she was found by police.

The woman can be seen walking a few yards in front.

She can be seen waiting for the girl to catch up before they both move out of view.

The NYPD said they weren’t sure whether the woman had any connection to the child or whether she was just concerned for her wellbeing.

But now, there has been an update in the case.

Her mother, thirty-two-year-old Sadeekah Abdul Salaam, was identified and arrested yesterday, ABC7 reported.

The woman was later charged with abandonment of a child, acting in a manner injurious to a child, and reckless endangerment.

She is yet to be sentenced.
