Elon Musk and Grimes whipped up a social media firestorm when they announced the rather unconventional name for their first baby together - X Æ A-12.

Now, it seems Grimes has hit the headlines for a very different reason... for selling a "piece of her soul" to the highest bidder.

Yep, really. Keep scrolling to find out what it is estimated to be valued at...

Elon Musk and Grimes have been in the spotlight non-stop lately.

Mainly due to the rather unconventional name they chose for their baby.

But this time, Grimes has hit the headlines for a very different reason.

And it's all-out bizarre.

Since 2018, Canadian musician, Grimes, has been a relationship with Elon Musk.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, went public with the billionaire at the Met Gala in 2018.

The pair have kept their relationship very private...

And on Grimes' Instagram page, which is certainly a rollercoaster experience when scrolling through it, there is no sign at all of Musk.

And after a series of unusual Instagram posts back in January...

Rumors began to circulate around Grimes being pregnant with Musk's child.

Eventually, the news that everyone was waiting for came shortly after.

She revealed to the media that she was, indeed, 7-months pregnant with Musk's child.

When she was asked about what kind of mother she will be...

Grimes said music and "raving" would play a big part in it. "The baby has already been exposed to a lot of techno in the womb," she said.

It was apparent that Grimes and Musk had more ideas for their child...

Grimes announced that they planned on raising their child as gender-neutral.

More specifically...

When asked, "Will you have a boy or a girl?", Grimes replied, "They may decide their fate and identity."

She then went into more detail...

Talking on YouTube, Grimes added, "I don’t want to say the gender of the baby… because I feel like their privacy should be protected. I don’t think they can consent to being famous or being in public. And I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their life. I don’t know, I just feel like it doesn’t need to be known."

Whatever Musk and Grimes feel is best for their baby...

We should completely respect that fact, but this is not their only controversial decision...

This is Grimes' first baby.

But Musk already has 5 children, a set of twins and triplets with his ex-wife Justine Wilson. Now that's a lot of children.

But, regardless, fans couldn't wait to see this baby.

And this Twitter user was completely right, because Musk's photo shortly after the birth completely broke the internet...

Finally, the happy day arrived for the couple.

On May 4th, Grimes and Musk welcomed their baby into the world, with Musk sharing this adorable photo on Twitter in response to eager fans.

Musk even decided to play around with his followers a little.

Showing you're never too young for some ink... It's fake, obviously.

The little bundle of joy appears to be in great health...

And when asked what the baby's name is, Musk replied with, "X Æ A-12 Musk."

We were hoping it was going to be a joke...

But it really wasn't. The baby was actually called "X Æ A-12 Musk."

Regardless of what the name means...

People have been trolling the hell out of it.

Twitter trolls have been having a field day with Musk's new child...

And the cruel memes just don't seem to be stopping.

And when a confused fan tweeted this...

Grimes responded in the best possible way.

Grimes decided to explain her thoughts behind the name...

"I think it sounds like the name of the main character in the story... I hope he vibes with that. Ok, going back into the pain/beauty reverie for sum time just came on to add my thoughts - peace and love," she wrote back.

And it looks like she accidentally revealed the baby's gender...

By using the pronoun "he."

But it seems the couple has hit a major (legal) hurdle.

California law prohibits Indo-Arabic numerals in names.

This means the pair can't actually name their baby "X Æ A-12."

Forcing them to change their son's name.

Grimes took to Instagram to reveal her baby's new name to fans.

She revealed the long-awaited name in her Instagram comments.

Introducing...

Baby X Æ A-Xii. Yep, not really much of a difference (aka it's still, well, bizarre) - the couple simply substituted in the Roman numerals signifying "12."

Grimes is in the spotlight once again today for a very different reason...

The singer revealed to Bloomberg that she's planning to selling a piece of her soul for the "best offer."

Yes, you read that correctly...

And she already had an idea of its estimated value.

When asked how much she thinks it will sell for...

Grimes said she planned to list it for $10 million.

Grimes's soul fragment is being auctioned off as part of an art exhibition titled "Selling Out."

The exhibition also includes drawings, prints, and photos.

Although, there's more to the story.

It seems the star doesn't actually want anyone to buy it. Don't worry, we're just as confused as you right now...

The singer explained:

"I didn't want anyone to buy it, so I said we should make it $10m, and then it probably won't sell."

The exhibition is being hosted by Gallery Platform Los Angeles (28 May - 3 June) and Maccarone Los Angeles (28 May - 31 August), according to VT.

The press release reveals more details surrounding the event: "Selling Out is executed as a contract in which Grimes sells a fraction of her soul, formalizing the idea that every time an artist sells a piece of their art, part of the soul is sold with it.

It's still not completely clear why Grimes is selling a part of her soul...
