The syndrome means he has been left unable to move the right side of his face. In the three minute video, Bieber demonstrates his symptoms as he attempts to smile, blink, and move his face – showing how one side of his face remains completely still.

In the video he says:

“As you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see this eye is not blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face.”

“Please pray for me.”

Bieber asked fans to pray for him, explaining that he doesn’t know just how long the effects of Ramsay Hunt will stay with him…

However, professor Derick Wade, an expert in neurological rehabilitation at Oxford Brookes University, explained to Sky News that while most people recover fully, Bieber appears to have a serious case of the virus.

He added: “I noticed that there wasn’t any movement, so that is quite severe loss. How well will it recover? He’s already told you the answer to that. Some people [recover] very quickly – in three weeks – and then other people can take several months. So it’s a very unpredictable exercise.”

Other experts have said that the syndrome can in some cases cause permanent facial muscle weakness.

While the future remains somewhat uncertain for Bieber, his wife, Hailey Bieber is standing by him.

Taking to Instaram, Hailey reshared Justin’s Instagram video, captioning it: “I love you baby.”
