Craig ‘muMs’ Grant has died aged 52.

The iconic actor and poet tragically passed away just a few days ago.

Where under the watch of McManus and Warden Leo Glynn, inmates attempt to fulfil their own needs.

Some of them fight for power..

Whereas others just want to survive and hopefully see the outside world once again.

The show focusses around McManus’ attempts to control the inmates in Em City.

And despite often being graphic and brutal, the show was often incredibly funny…

Grant made many appearances on TV.

But following the tragic news of his early death, many are remembering him for his role on Oz.

He played the poet, aptly named Poet.

As you can probably expect, on the show he was often reciting poetry in Em City.

But he wasn’t only remembered for this role.

He’s also remembered for his role as Cash Jackson in Spike Lee’s, She’s Gotta Have It.

Grant was filming for the Starz series, Hightown, at the time of his death.

And he was expected to travel to Atlanta next week to film his appearances for BET series All the Queens Men.

Grant’s representatives confirmed his death.

They did so with an emotional statement calling him a “deeply talented writer and actor.”

The statement reads:

We are heartbroken over the loss of one of the most genuine, caring, loving souls we have ever had the pleasure of representing.

“Craig was more than our client, he was our dear friend. We all just lost a phenomenal man.”

His death was also confirmed by The LAByrinth Theater where Grant often worked.

They wrote:

The LAByrinth Theater family is deeply saddened to share the news of the unexpected loss of Craig ‘muMs’ Grant.

“We’ll forever miss our friend, brother, LAB member, Emcee, mentor, poet, actor, spoken-word giant, and fire-breathing teddy bear.”

muMs’ presence, performances, and words inspired a generation. His legacy will live on, from the Bronx and into the beyond.

” Keep rocking the mic, Schemer!”

They concluded their emotional message with Grant’s birth and death dates: “12/18/1968 – 03/24/2021.”

Writer, Kevin Powell, was another who praised Grant.

Powell tweeted:
I am just speechless right now. Any of us who came up in New York poetry/spoken word scene of 1990s or 2000s know name Craig “Mums” Grant. Got word this morning he passed while making a film or tv project in ATL. Mums was mad gifted with words, and acting, and more. HUGE LOSS.

Other colleagues and fans praised Grant as a ‘genius’.

It seems the world has truly lost a true artist in the death of Craig muMs Grant.

At the time of writing no cause of death has been reported.

And the acting world continues to mourn his early loss.

Rest in peace.
