Now, it’s not the only bad news Cavill has recently announced as earlier this year he sadly announced his departure from the beloved fantasy show The Witcher.

The star was replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the Netflix series.

Prior to this announcement, fans thought Netflix was knocking it out of the park when it came to its recent slate of content.

The streaming giant’s series The Witcher whipped up a lot of attention from fantasy fans since it first hit the screens!

Many originally compared the show to the likes of Game of Thrones.

But The Witcher has proving to be a huge frontrunner in the genre, and it’s not hard to see why.

Complete with humans, elves, witches, gnomes, and monsters, Netflix’s fantasy offering truly was a visual spectacle.

And fans loved it!

The show primarily centers on the protagonist Geralt of Rivia, normally played by Henry Cavill.

He’s a monster hunter known as — you guessed it — a Witcher who travels the countryside slaying various spine-chilling beasts. Just like Game of Thrones, The Witcher is also based on a bestselling novella.

Though there are some differences in Netflix’s adaption that slightly stray from the books.

For the show, the story will also look at Princess Ciri and Yennefer of Vengerberg’s arcs.

Unbelievably, the show has already enjoyed 2 seasons…

The medieval extravaganza was lavished with praise by critics who had the chance to view the show early before its global debut.

But there’s one thing that people have said makes it way better than Game of Thrones

There’s no denying that Game of Thrones reigns supreme in the fantasy genre, but it looks like The Witcher may be giving it a run for its money, with viewers having said the battle scenes are putting GOT to shame.

Some are going as far as to say the fight scenes are making similar scenes in Game of Thrones look “awful.”

“The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game Of Thrones fight scenes look like 2 drunks fighting outside a bar,” wrote one user, while another said: “The fight choreography is insane. The first fight Geralt gets into is beautifully savage. The blend of swordplay and Geralt’s signs is perfection.

The captivating performance from the series’ leading star also caught the eye of fans.

After all, executing those massive fight scenes in that huge amour costume must have been pretty physically challenging!

Cavill’s looks have also been praised!

“Hair and makeup stuff has become an essential component of becoming the character in the morning,” he confessed to Polygon. “One, because it takes so damn long, and two, it’s such a particular look. I wanted to make sure Geralt looked like a witcher who was a bada** and still remained raw.”

The star went to extreme lengths during filming…

Lauren Schmidt, The Witcher‘s producer, explained: “He wanted, for instance, for the armor to look like it had been worn for years and years. So, he made breakfast in it and he would sleep in it.”

“We were like ‘you don’t have to do that by the way’, but he’s that invested in embodying his character.

“It was important to him. It’s one of the reasons why Henry is such an important member of our team.”

And it seems Cavill got very attached to his costume…

  via Shutterstock

So much so, that he admitted he took it home with him when filming concluded.

“I took it all home, yeah. It’s not so easy to put on. And it took two hours of hair and make-up every day, so that’s just sitting at home looking cool,” he told NME

Tim Aslam, told Polygon that during filming Cavill’s “muscles wore down the leather at such an alarming rate” that replacements were “near-constantly” being made to ensure he was camera-ready.

But recently, fans of The Witcher have been hit with some bad news, with it being announced that Cavill was stepping down from his role and being replaced by Aussie hunk Liam Hemsworth.

“Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher after begging Netflix for the role and being the biggest fan of the franchise is making the report that the writers hate the books seem more and more plausible. They chased that man away from the series. This is sick,” wrote one fan.

“I need someone from The Witcher team to leak everything I am simply too nosy what kind of s*** do you have to pull to make a LEAD ACTOR leave,” said another.

“Netflix is trying to convince The Witcher fan base that Liam Hemsworth is a good replacement for Henry Cavill,” one fan savagely wrote.

“They couldn’t even get the better Hemsworth brother that’s how deep in s*** The Witcher production is remember that folks,” another opined.

Cavill released an official statement on the matter…

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character,” Hemsworth said.

“I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Last year, Cavill spoke in depth about his love for The Witcher

  via Getty Images

And he mentioned how he would stay loyal to the series.

“I’m a huge fan of the books and staying loyal to them, and it’s about making sure that story happens without too much in the way of diversions or side things going on to muddy the waters,” Cavill said.

He also told IGN in December 2021 that the books are his “focus.”

“The books are so nuanced, and there is so much complexity to the characters in there that it is ultimately that. As far as the show goes, I just want to make sure that the character and the books are done justice in live action, because I’m always of the mind that if it’s not broken, don’t try and fix it. And I don’t think they’re broken, and I absolutely love those books. For me, that’s my focus.”

However, Cavill’s departure has left fans questioning his next move…

A week ago, Cavill also announced he’s set to return to the big screen as Superman. While some fans believed that this was the main reason for his departure, others weren’t as convinced…

  via Getty Images

“Well, it’s not all Superman but more because Henry Cavill wanted to stay true to the source material and the showrunners don’t. This is the most accurate reason of why,” tweeted one fan.

The third season was wrapped up in September and will now be the Jersey native’s final adventure as Geralt the Rivia.

However, fans now think Cavill may have been dissatisfied with the direction the show was heading and that’s why he may have quit.

In fact, they have started an online petition and have asked Netflix to fire the show’s writers…

In a bid to try and get Cavill back to the role.

The change.org petition which was created by a user named Stef Ma and reads: “Netflix, you MUST keep Henry Cavill as The Witcher and replace the writers instead.”

  via Getty Images

The petition has already gained over 4,000 signatures in just 2 days.

And the number of signatures is only set to increase.

Creator Stef Ma wrote: “Henry [Cavill] isn’t leaving The Witcher because of Superman. Netflix executives have once again made a grave decision against delivering for their fans. The reason why The Witcher is such a popular show is the fans’ love of the source material of books and games that are hated by and have actively been mocked by the writers and showrunners. Henry Cavill is one of those big fans. He knows all of it inside out and wanted to stay true to Sapkowski’s world, which is why Netflix wants to replace him.”

“Let us show them in pure numbers that none of us Witcher fans will stand with them and will abandon the show (and potentially our subscriptions) after The Witcher season three is concluded.

  via Getty Images

“We already had to suffer through the disaster that was the end of Game of Thrones. Netflix, don’t repeat the exact same mistake of holding onto writers and showrunners that believe themselves to be superior to the actual creator of the stories that made them successful,” they finished.

Then followed news about a different franchise altogether!

This time about one that Cavill was never actually involved in at all…

During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star shared his thoughts on the casting of Robert Pattinson in Twilight.

  via Shutterstock

This comes after posts from author Stephanie Meyer’s blog reemerged, where she named Cavill as her top pick for the role of Edward Cullen.

“Henry Cavill is now twenty-four-years-old. Let us have a moment of quiet in which to mourn,” the author wrote.

As per PEOPLE, she added that she was “not willing to relinquish Henry completely.”

“Since I hear that Charlie Hunnam refuses to consider scripts which include vampires, I propose that Henry play Carlisle,” wrote the author.

However, Meyer had zero say when it came to casting the roles, and so it ultimately ended up in Pattinson’s hands.

When asked if he was jealous about missing out on the job, Cavill responded: “No, not at all, because I didn’t know about the movie.”

  via Getty Images

“I didn’t know about them wanting to cast me,” he continued.

“The internet wasn’t quite as, wasn’t quite the tool that it is now.

  via Getty Images

“So, yeah, I only found out afterwards and I was like, ‘Oh, okay, that would have been cool,'” Cavill added.

Cavill was also asked about another role that he lost out on to Pattinson.

  via Getty Images

Turns out, both actors actually auditioned for the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

“Yes, I remember that. I definitely auditioned for that one and I did not get it,” Cavill shared.

  via Getty Images

“The audition may have gone well, it may have gone terribly, I’m sure someone out there has footage which hopefully is locked away and never will be seen.”

“It wasn’t right,” the star concluded.

But recently, Cavill made a huge announcement.

And it’s left fans heartbroken…

The thirty-nine-year-old actor revealed the disheartening news that he will not be reprising his role as Superman after he attended a meeting with DC Studios president, James Gunn.

  via Getty Images

In a statement, Cavill wrote: “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”

  via Getty Images

“I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes,” he continued.

“For those who have been by my side through the years…we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around.

  via Getty Images

“Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there,” Cavill added.

“My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.

  via Getty Images

“It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards,” he concluded the post.

What do you think about his news?
