It's official: How I Met Your Mother is getting a sequel series and no other than Hilary Duff is set to star.

Here are all the details...

Now, Hilary Duff is a ray of sunshine.

She's one of the few people in the world with a truly infectious smile - and when she laughs, it seems to light up the room.

She's best known for the role that made her.

Duff played the titular character in classic '00s teen sitcom, Lizzie McGuire - which, for many of us, was the show that marked our childhoods.

But in recent years, Duff has let acting take a back seat.

She's been focusing on her family.

Duff has one son with ice hockey star Mike Comrie.

Their son, Luca Cruz Comrie, was born in March 2012 - and here are the 3 of them together.

And in October 2018, Duff had her second kid.

Duff gave birth to her second child and first daughter, Banks Violet Bair with musician Matthew Koma October 25th, 2018.

Since then, the family were blessed with more good news.

In March 2021, Duff gave birth to second daughter Mae.

The whole family seem very close.

But now it seems Duff wants to get back into the acting game.

And she's doing so in a truly iconic way.

As today, it's been announced she's set to star in the upcoming How I Met Your Mother sequel.

Variety reports thatThis Is Us co-producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will act as writers and executive producers on How I Met Your Father.

HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas also involved in executive producer roles.

In a classic reversal, How I Met Your Father will tell the story of Sophie, played by Hilary, who tells her son (wait for it) how she met his father.

"I've been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I'm looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie," Duff explained.

"As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I'm honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby."

"Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can't wait to work alongside them and all of their genius."

"Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families."

"I realize these are big shoes to fill and I'm excited to slip my 6 ½'s in there!"
