Steven Romo, a news anchor, and reporter for ABC13, recently got engaged to Fox 26 weatherman, Stephen Morgan, announcing the happy news on Instagram.
Romo started off by saying: “Professional News: Scratch that. Personal News,” in his post with the couple smiling in a selfie holding their dazzling engagement rings up to the camera.
“I grew up with secrets. My family fought together to hide that we lived in a house full of garbage with a horde of dogs,” Romo began.
Romo was born in Dallas and raised in the suburb of Duncanville, Texas. The news anchor has spoken about the neglect in his childhood due to the state of his mother’s mental health.
“But what they didn’t know, and was arguably even more difficult, was that I had a secret to carry all on my own: I was gay and trying with all my heart not to be,” he continued.
The mental and physical health advocate and news anchor explained to his followers that it took him a long time to understand that being a gay man saved his life.
“It took me years to see–despite what people at church might’ve said–being gay saved me. It made me strong. Strong enough to eventually stand next to the best human I’ve ever met and ask him to marry me.”
Beautiful, right? Well, you might need Kleenex because it gets a hell of a lot cuter yet!
“Before I met Stephen Morgan, I thought maybe this kind of love just wasn’t in the cards for me. That it was a journey I’d never take.”
“But now I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. In my whole life. And I’ll soon be moving to New York City with the person I want to spend the rest of my life with,” Romo finished.
The anchor also posted a photo of him at work stating: “Here’s a quote I like: You can’t be brave if you’ve only had wonderful things happen to you.”
Romo has discussed his experience with poverty as well as his mother’s death at forty-three years old, sparking motivation for him to confront damaging habits early on in his life.
Morgan, a weatherman, also posted the same photo to his Instagram account.
“I often think about one specific prayer I said as a 10-year-old, asking God to keep a ‘secret’ between the two of us. Obviously, God knows everything, so it wasn’t like I could hide it from Him. But I could hide it from [most] of my friends…from my family,” he wrote.
“How relieving, though, that the truth eventually comes out. I never dreamed of uttering the words ‘I’m engaged,’ but I also never dreamed of being so happy. Yet here we are. I’m engaged. I’m going to marry Steven Romo.
“Growing up, I learned God is love & makes no mistakes. I learned that humans are created in His image. I learned that through our trials, tribulations, & temptations God will be the ultimate judge.
“God knew a 10-year-old could never keep a secret. Funny. Because I don’t want to keep this a secret any longer,” he finished.
What a heartwarming way to declare your love to the world!
Congratulations Romo and Morgan, we can’t wait for your big day.
