Joe Biden is now officially the 46th President of the United States.
Earlier today, he was sworn into the position along with Kamala Harris, who is set to take on the position of Vice President.
He previously ran in both 1988 and in 2008, before becoming vice president to Barack Obama.
As per Biography, Biden’s father, Joseph Biden Sr., worked cleaning furnaces and as a used car salesman, while his mother was Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan.
He recalled his father often saying: “Champ, the measure of a man is not how often he is knocked down, but how quickly he gets up.”
However, he managed to overcome his speech impediment by memorizing passages of poetry and reciting them out loud in front of the mirror.
After graduating from law school in 1968, he became a member of the Democrat party before being elected to the New Castle County Council in ’70.
Very few people thought he’d get in, but, after a campaign organized mostly by family, Biden won, making him the fifth-youngest U.S. senator elected in the nation’s history.
He was struck by a devastating tragedy in his personal life.
Biden’s wife and 3 children were involved in a horrific car accident while out shopping for a Christmas tree.
And left both of his sons, Beau and Hunter, severely injured.
“I began to understand how despair led people to just cash in; how suicide wasn’t just an option but a rational option … I felt God had played a horrible trick on me, and I was angry.”
But the heartbreak didn’t end there as his son, Beau, later died of brain cancer.
But opted to take the oath of office from his sons’ hospital room, instead of the usual swearing-in ceremony.
And it wasn’t long before his presidential ambitions kicked in.
Biden had been suffering severe headaches during the campaign, and shortly after he dropped out the following year, doctors discovered that he had 2 life-threatening brain aneurysms.
Biden decided to run for president once again. However, despite his experience in the Senate, his campaign failed to gain momentum.
Last year marked his third run for president…
And saw him go head to head with Donald Trump.
Of course, the election couldn’t have fallen on a worse year, but it powered ahead despite some major setbacks… including Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis.
But now, we’re closing that chapter and starting a new one…
And Joe Biden is officially the 46th President of the United States.
And on this special day, we can’t help but remember all the tragic obstacles in Biden’s way.
But especially the death of his son, Beau Biden, who would have been proud of his father for achieving his dreams today.
And if things couldn’t get any more emotional, we recently found out that Hunter Biden has named his son after his late brother.
The young boy was born in late March last year, according to reports and was given the nickname Beau in honor of his late uncle.
And the news just put the cherry on top of the all-important inauguration day for a lot of people.
It really is the start of a new era for Americans.
Let’s just hope the next 4 years go a lot smoother than the past 4 years…
Stay tuned for more updates on the new president and his family…
