Fans thought Netflix was knocking it out of the park when it comes to its recent slate of content.

The streaming giant’s series The Witcher whipped up a lot of attention from fantasy fans since it first hit the screens!

Many originally compared the show to the likes of Game of Thrones.

But The Witcher proved to be a huge frontrunner in the genre, and it’s not hard to see why.

Complete with humans, elves, witches, gnomes, and monsters, Netflix’s fantasy offering was a true visual spectacle.

And fans loved it!

The show primarily centers on the protagonist Geralt of Rivia, normally played by Henry Cavill.

He’s a monster hunter known as — you guessed it — a Witcher who travels the countryside slaying various spine-chilling beasts. Just like Game of Thrones, The Witcher is also based on a bestselling novella.

Though there are some differences in Netflix’s adaption that slightly stray from the books.

For the show, the story will also look at Princess Ciri and Yennefer of Vengerberg’s arcs.

Unbelievably, the show has already enjoyed 2 seasons…

The medieval extravaganza was lavished with praise by critics who had the chance to view the show early before its global debut.

But there’s one thing that people are saying makes it way better than Game of Thrones

  via Getty Images

There’s no denying that Game of Thrones reigns supreme in the fantasy genre, but it looks like The Witcher may be giving it a run for its money, with viewers saying the battle scenes are putting GOT to shame.

Some are going as far as to say the fight scenes are making similar scenes in Game of Thrones look “awful.”

  via Getty Images

“The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game Of Thrones fight scenes look like 2 drunks fighting outside a bar,” wrote one user, while another said: “The fight choreography is insane. The first fight Geralt gets into is beautifully savage. The blend of swordplay and Geralt’s signs is perfection.

The captivating performance from the series’ leading star, Henry Cavill, also caught the eye of fans.

After all, executing those massive fight scenes in that huge amour costume must have been pretty physically challenging.

Cavill’s looks have also been praised!

  via Getty Images

“Hair and makeup stuff has become an essential component of becoming the character in the morning,” he confessed to Polygon. “One, because it takes so damn long, and two, it’s such a particular look. I wanted to make sure Geralt looked like a witcher who was a bada** and still remained raw.”

The star went to extreme lengths during filming…

Lauren Schmidt, The Witcher‘s producer, explained: “He wanted, for instance, for the armor to look like it had been worn for years and years. So, he made breakfast in it and he would sleep in it.”

“We were like ‘you don’t have to do that by the way’, but he’s that invested in embodying his character.

“It was important to him. It’s one of the reasons why Henry is such an important member of our team.”

And it seems Cavill got very attached to his costume…

  via Shutterstock

So much so, that he admitted he took it home with him when filming concluded.

“I took it all home, yeah. It’s not so easy to put on. And it took two hours of hair and make-up every day, so that’s just sitting at home looking cool,” he told NME

Tim Aslam, told Polygon that during filming Cavill’s “muscles wore down the leather at such an alarming rate” that replacements were “near-constantly” being made to ensure he was camera-ready.

But this weekend, fans of The Witcher were hit with some bad news…

Cavill is stepping down from his role!

  via Getty Images

And is set to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

“Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher after begging Netflix for the role and being the biggest fan of the franchise is making the report that the writers hate the books seem more and more plausible. They chased that man away from the series. This is sick,” wrote one fan.

“I need someone from The Witcher team to leak everything I am simply too nosy what kind of s*** do you have to pull to make a LEAD ACTOR leave,” said another.

“Netflix is trying to convince The Witcher fan base that Liam Hemsworth is a good replacement for Henry Cavill,” one fan savagely wrote.

“They couldn’t even get the better Hemsworth brother that’s how deep in s*** The Witcher production is remember that folks,” another opined.

Cavill released an official statement on the matter.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character,” Hemsworth said.

“I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Last year, Cavill spoke in depth about his love for The Witcher

  via Getty Images

And he mentioned how he would stay loyal to the series.

“I’m a huge fan of the books and staying loyal to them, and it’s about making sure that story happens without too much in the way of diversions or side things going on to muddy the waters,” Cavill said.

  via Getty Images

He also told IGN in December 2021 that the books are his “focus.”

“The books are so nuanced, and there is so much complexity to the characters in there that it is ultimately that. As far as the show goes, I just want to make sure that the character and the books are done justice in live action, because I’m always of the mind that if it’s not broken, don’t try and fix it. And I don’t think they’re broken, and I absolutely love those books. For me, that’s my focus.”

However, Cavill’s departure has left fans questioning his next move.

A week ago, Cavill also announced he’s set to return to the big screen as Superman. While some fans believed that this was the main reason for his departure, others weren’t as convinced…

  via Getty Images

“Well, it’s not all Superman but more because Henry Cavill wanted to stay true to the source material and the showrunners don’t. This is the most accurate reason of why,” tweeted one fan.

The third season was wrapped up in September and will now be the Jersey native’s final adventure as Geralt of Rivia.

However, fans now think Cavill may have been dissatisfied with the direction the show was heading and that’s why he may have quit.

In fact, they have started an online petition and have asked Netflix to fire the show’s writers…

  via Getty Images

In a bid to try and get Cavill back to the role.

The change.org petition was created by a user named Stef Ma and reads: “Netflix, you MUST keep Henry Cavill as The Witcher and replace the writers instead.”

  via Getty Images

The petition has already gained over 4,000 signatures in just 2 days.

And the number of signatures is only set to increase.

Creator Stef Ma wrote: “Henry [Cavill] isn’t leaving The Witcher because of Superman. Netflix executives have once again made a grave decision against delivering for their fans. The reason why The Witcher is such a popular show is the fans’ love of the source material of books and games that are hated by and have actively been mocked by the writers and showrunners. Henry Cavill is one of those big fans. He knows all of it inside out and wanted to stay true to Sapkowski’s world, which is why Netflix wants to replace him.”

“Let us show them in pure numbers that none of us Witcher fans will stand with them and will abandon the show (and potentially our subscriptions) after The Witcher season 3 is concluded.

  via Getty Images

“We already had to suffer through the disaster that was the end of Game of Thrones.

“Netflix, don’t repeat the exact same mistake of holding onto writers and showrunners that believe themselves to be superior to the actual creator of the stories that made them successful,” they finished.

There was even more speculation from fans after a clip emerged from one of the star’s recent interviews.

  via Shutterstock

He appeared as a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Cavill was asked about his upcoming reprisal of Superman, to which he responded: “It’s just about belief. If you believe what you’re doing is the right thing then you’ll be able to keep on doing it.

  via Getty Images

“It’s also important to know that if you realize you’re doing the wrong thing, that’s when you stop doing the wrong thing.

“You don’t just keep going just because, because that leads down a dark path,” he concluded.

  via Shutterstock

And well, fans think this combined with his body language says a lot more than what actually came out of his mouth…

One fan said: “He clearly isn’t comfortable lying on camera. He could have said nothing but he had to tell the truth.”

  via Getty Images

While another wrote: “You can tell something happened behind the scenes with The Witcher.”

“Huge respect for him for believing in the origin of The Witcher, and not just be standing and looking at them going completely away from the origin,” a third added.

  via Getty Images

And now, a fan-made edit giving an idea of what Hemsworth will look like in the show has been circulating online.

The deep fake was posted to YouTube by Stryder HD…

  via Shutterstock

They captioned the clip: “Hey everyone this is my THE WITCHER – Season 4 – First Look | Liam Hemsworth as Geralt | DeepFake where I portray what it may look like Liam Hemsworth steps in to take the role of Geralt starting in season 4 of Netflix’s The Witcher series via ‘Deep Fake’ technology.”

Some fans were overjoyed to get a first look at what the actor could look like as Geralt.

  via Shutterstock

“Great video, but I’m passing on the new Witcher,” one fan wrote. “Henry was the perfect fit. Not just looks but his dedication to the role and lore.”

However, others just couldn’t get over losing Cavill.

  via Getty Images

It’s clear he’s made his mark.

Another pointed out: “This looks good because although the face is deep faked, the mannerism and the voice of the character are still Henry Cavill’s.

  via Getty Images

“No shade to Liam Hemsworth but I wonder how the same scenes would have looked with Liam’s mannerism and gestures.”

While a third chimed: “I couldn’t wait for Season 4, but had no idea about Hemsworth taking the lead.

  via Getty Images

“We’ll have to wait and see I suppose, but who’s voice will be used? Not sure about this.”

Despite this, the edit is pretty good…
