Jameela Jamil quit Twitter shortly after Elon Musk bought the site for $44 billion, and now she’s shared how people responded to the news.
Jamil said that she feared Musk acquiring the social media site would lead to “lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny” on the platform.

![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1387431806.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Being the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineering Designer of not only Tesla but SpaceX too, he has an awful lot going for him.
As it currently stands, Tesla is the world’s leading electric car company…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_1.jpg.optimal.jpg)
With almost 500,000 vehicles being bought and distributed in 2020 alone. The company is pioneering the future of electric car travel with Musk as its CEO.
And then there’s Space X…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_2.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Space X became the first private company to successfully launch, orbit, and recover a spacecraft, as well as the first to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS).
And due to his accomplishments, Musk has cashed in a serious amount of money since starting his businesses…

Back in January 2021, according to the BBC, Musk finally became the richest man in the world, knocking Jeff Bezos out of 1st place.
Quite the achievement, I know!
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_4.jpg.optimal.jpg)
However, the feud between Musk and Bezos had been ongoing all year, with the pair yo-yo-ing between 1st and 2nd place.
Well, until late last year…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_10.png)
Musk saw a jump of 4.9 percent for the stock price of Tesla at the start of the year – an increase that came just days after finishing the first trading session of the year where they saw an increase of 3.4 percent.
Musk’s net worth subsequently soared shortly after to a staggering $188 billion, as per Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_11.png)
And with Jeff Bezos’ net worth standing at $187 billion, Elon Musk was ultimately placed as the world’s richest man.
Things just kept getting better for Musk, and as of September 7th, he was reportedly worth over $200 billion…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_5.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Making him the 3rd person in the world to ever reach that milestone, behind Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault, CEO of French luxury brands Moët, Hennessy, and Louis Vuitton.
A great achievement for Musk!

And of course, he went about the news in the most typical “Elon Musk” way.
In response to the news, he simply tweeted, “How strange”…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-930533880.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Before adding: “Well back to work.”
Then, almost a month after beating Bezos and becoming the world’s richest man…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_14.jpg.optimal.jpg)
He secured his position in 1st place.
On October 25th, 2021, Musk left his competitors in the dust as he reportedly gained a further $36 million…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/elon-musk-loses-15-billion_15.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Taking him up to a whopping $269 billion according to Forbes.
However, despite being crowned the richest man in the world, it hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows for the CEO…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-479833746.jpg.optimal.jpg)
In 2021 alone, he split from his long-time girlfriend Grimes, as well as having to pay up for some unpaid taxes due to unrealized gains in Tesla stock. So all in all, it was a choppy year.
Now, Elon really did make the headlines an awful lot last year.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1181926068.jpg.optimal.jpg)
And it was always in celebration of his success.
He started this year off right, too. The $11 billion in taxes he paid have definitely been a thing of the past for him because he almost tripled what he paid in 2021, and it was only the beginning of 2022.
How? You might ask…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/GettyImages-1358939085.jpg.optimal.jpg)
It’s all down to his Tesla company.
In 2021, Tesla manufactured 936,000 vehicles, allowing for a rise in stock prices, as per LADbible.
And to put his riches into perspective…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/GettyImages-1340586553.jpg.optimal.jpg)
By Musk paying $11 billion in taxes last year, he gave 0.0036 percent of his earnings away. Yep, it might make you want to cry yourself to sleep, but that’s the truth.
And recently, Musk has been showing us all just how wealthy he truly is…

By bidding $44 billion for Twitter, which he already had a 9% acquisition in.
Musk wrote in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Committee: “I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1239961186.jpg.optimal.jpg)
“However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.”
Yep, that’s right, Musk met with Twitter executives over the weekend to discuss the possibility of taking on the company.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1239417516.jpg.optimal.jpg)
As per the Wall Street Journal, he got financing for $46.5 billion this week in order to make it happen.
And they accepted making Musk the new owner of Twitter!
As impossible as this might sound, there was a reason why his offer was too good to miss…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1238367618.jpg.optimal.jpg)
According to the WSJ, Twitter shareholders wanted a payout from the company, so his bid couldn’t have come at a better time.
Musk has already made it clear that he wants to make some changes to the site…
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1233948424.jpg.optimal.jpg)
One being longer Tweets and another being the excessive amount of ads being toned down. He also suggested that the site would be better off going private.
Opinions on Musk’s acquisition of the site have been very mixed.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1229892983.jpg.optimal.jpg)
While some have celebrated it, others are very much against Musk taking over.
So much so, that some people have even left the social media platform and abandoned their accounts.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1192224005.jpg.optimal.jpg)
And among those is Jameela Jamil.
Jameela Jamil quit Twitter after Elon Musk purchased the site.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1189893718.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Hours before the purchase was confirmed, Jamil hinted that she would leave should Musk succeed.
“One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really,” she wrote.
Then, once Musk’s purchase was confirmed, Jamil confirmed her departure from the site.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1177358288.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Jamil revealed that she would be leaving the site as she worried about what the site would become.
Sharing 4 pictures with her dog, Jamil wrote: “Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet. Just really *any* excuse to show pics of Barold.”
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1176860054.jpg.optimal.jpg)
“I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck.”
And it seems people weren’t all too impressed by her comments, as Jamil has received a lot of backlash for her decision.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1285867232.jpg.optimal.jpg)
She shared screenshots on Instagram of her final tweet which has been met with disapproval by “angry white men.”
“I said this and then left after Elon bought Twitter, and some angry white men are seemingly quite upset,” she wrote.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1204093247.jpg.optimal.jpg)
She then shared some messages that she’d been sent, calling her a “dumb b***h,” with some even threatening to kill her.
“I don’t want a freedom of hate speech because it is detrimental to the freedom of speech of the oppressed as they face such horrific and scary real-life consequences for objecting to their oppression,” she wrote.
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1193663044.jpg.optimal.jpg)
“This is a move towards (esp straight male) white entitlement. Nobody else is safe there if they do not think the already HORRIFYING vitriol on that app is enough ‘freedom.’”
She concluded her post, writing: “Sign of what’s to come on there eh? Let the angry boys have their toy.”
![](https://twentytwowords.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GettyImages-1187025124.jpg.optimal.jpg)
Adding: “Once there is nobody there to make bigoted jokes about or to oppress or threaten to r*pe, they will fizzle out and go back to Reddit where they came from.”
