Legendary actor James Caan has sadly died aged 82 and now his cause of death has been confirmed.

James Caan passed away on July 6, and now his cause of death has been announced.

Now, Caan was most well known for his role in the hit classic The Godfather, in which he played Sonny Corleone, and fans are understandably distraught by the news.
Many took to social media to share their favorite characters he played over the years, highlighting his most prominent roles in the movies Misery and Elf, as well as many other performances.
His death was confirmed on Twitter through his own account.
The post read: “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6, The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Caan was known for ending his tweets with “end of tweet,” and his last post was no different, something fans have picked up on.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “RIP, you legend. Everyone seriously needs to go (re)watch the films listed in his bio. They’re all amazing and James Caan was a major reason why. Every moment he’s on-screen, you can’t look away. He was a true master of the craft as well as a real humanitarian. He will be missed.”
While another added: “So sorry to hear of Mr Caan’s passing. One of the greatest American actors to grace the screen in my humble opinion. So much charisma and presence. He will be eternally missed. (RIP)”
The Twitter account for The Godfather also posted a tribute to the star, writing: “In remembrance of the legendary James Caan. Rest In Peace.”
His co-stars, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro shared their tributes to the actor too, with Pacino writing: “Jimmy was my fictional brother and my lifelong friend. It’s hard to believe that he won’t be in the world anymore because he was so alive and daring. A great actor, a brilliant director, and my dear friend. I’m gonna miss him.” While De Niro said, “I’m very very sad to hear about Jimmy’s passing.”
Throughout his time on the big screen, Caan received a whopping 137 credits for the 6 decades he was working as an actor, just proving how talented he truly was.
As well as the movies mentioned, Caan also appeared in Red Line 7000 (1965), El Dorado (1966), Brian’s Song (1971), The Gambler (1974), Rollerball (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Thief (1981), Gardens of Stone (1997), Dick Tracy (1990), and The Yards (2000), to name a few of his most prominent appearances.
Despite all these achievements, there was one last thing Caan wanted to achieve before his death.
In an interview last July with CBS Sunday Morning, he shared that he still felt there was one more thing he needed to achieve.
“I want to do a good piece of work. I’m frustrated, I’d love to do a real character thing,” he explained to CBS host Ben Mankiewicz.
“I can’t take it easy. To me, I enjoy working. I love to work with good people. I have more fun when I’m working, and I have a lot of laughs. And I get respect too sometimes.”
Caan worked right up until his death, appearing in the comedy, Queen Bees last year.
We will also get to see him in the movie Fast Charlie, which is scheduled to come out in 2023.
Whether he thought it or not, we can all agree he did “a real character thing,” more than once.

Now, two weeks on from his death, the cause of Caan’s passing has been revealed.
According to TMZ, Caan died from a combination of serious heart problems.
His death certificate says Caan died from a heart attack and coronary artery disease while also suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.
He died at 9:02 PM at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
