Jamie Lynn Spears has finally spoken out in support of her older sister after the highly public statements surrounding her abusive conservatorship.

“I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do,” the actor-singer said on her Instagram story, “But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say I can follow her lead.”

Jamie said that it’s “extremely clear” that she has “only loved and adored and supported” her sister. “I mean, this is my freaking big sister before any of this bulls***.”

“I don’t care if she wants to run away to the rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or come back and dominate the world like she has so many times before,” she shared.

The Zoey 101 star has appeared to distance herself from playing any kind of role in Britney’s affairs in a public sense, by saying she made a “very conscious choice” to only participate in the singer’s life as her sister.

“I paid my freakin’ bills since I was ten years old. Not that I owe the public anything, because my sister knows I love and support her,” she explained.

The thirty-year-old continued, saying she has “nothing to gain or lose either way” and that she is only “concerned about [Britney’s] happiness” as her sister.

In 2020, the Los Angeles Times reported that Jamie had filed for more control over Britney’s financial assets, and had served as the trustee of Britney’s estate for the past 2 years. However, the filing did not make clear what role this would play in the legal battle over Britney’s conservatorship.

She also responded to the public pressure to speak out: “Maybe I haven’t supported her the way the public would like me to, with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you that I’ve supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I’ll support her long after. Note that.”

Fans had attacked the younger sister in the last week and have assumed her silence suggested she was complicit in Britney’s conservatorship, which has been run by their father Jamie Spears for the past thirteen years.

She continued, saying she doesn’t “owe the public anything” and that her sister “knows I love and support her.” “That’s the only person I owe anything to. I am not my family. I am my own person. I am speaking for myself. I’m so proud of her for using her voice.”

Jamie shared she was “so proud” of Britney for requesting new counsel, expressing she had encouraged her to do so “many years ago.” She added, “Oh, not on a big public platform, but just in a personal conversation between two sisters, so I’m very proud that she’s taken that step.”

“If ending the conservatorship, or flying to Mars, or whatever the hell else she wants to do to be happy, I support that 100 percent because I support my sister,” Jamie said, “I love my sister — always have, always will, as long as she’s happy.”
