Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer have given fans what they wanted after they revealed the Ross and Rachel love saga almost came true in real life…

The big moment has finally arrived!

The highly-anticipated Friends reunion dropped on our screens this morning.

And it didn’t disappoint…

Now, Friends is arguably one of the most successful sitcoms of all time.

We were introduced to the Friends gang back in 1994, when Ross (David Schwimmer), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Monica, (Courteney Cox), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) first burst onto our screens.

Of course, it was an instant hit…

Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the comedy follows the friends, who live in the same New York apartment block, as they together navigate through the turbulent years of their late twenties.

The final episode aired in September 2004…

And we watched through our tears as the gang said their final goodbyes to the apartment we had all grown to know and love for the past decade.

It was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least.

Monica and Chandler were starting a family, Phoebe was newly married, Rachel had a new job in Paris… As with a lot of friendships, the gang had grown apart and were embarking upon their separate journeys.

Oh, and Rachel got off the plane!

Fans rejoiced as Ross and Rachel finally put their differences aside and got back together.

But, fifteen years on from Rachel getting off the plane…

We never found out what happened to the gang.
Did Rachel and Ross stay together? Would Monica and Chandler ever get divorced? Did Joey ever make it as a big actor?

Over the years, there have been a few low-key reunions and a lot of false hope…

But apart from the occasional reunion on talk shows, fans have had their fair share of disappointments when it comes to waiting for a Friends reunion.

Well, the news we were all waiting for arrived in February last year…

All of the cast posted the same throwback picture on Instagram confirming the news of an official reunion.

The reunion was originally scheduled to air in May 2020 on HBO Max…

Along with the channel releasing all ten seasons of the sitcom for viewers to watch on-demand.

But bad news wasn’t far around the corner…

Due to the global pandemic, the Friends reunion was called off “indefinitely,” just a week before filming was set to take place.

But it’s true when they say, good things come to those who wait!

Because the time has finally come.

The one-off unscripted special aired this morning on HBO Max.

And it included the stars walking around the original set at Warner Bros Studios in California, taking part in that trivia game, and doing a table read of well-known scenes, including Phoebe reenacting her spotting Monica and Chandler kissing from the fifth series.

Of course, the whole show had fans hooked…

But there’s one revelation in particular that had truly had fans taken aback…

…The Ross and Rachel love saga almost came true.

Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer revealed they were “crushing hard” on each other.

The revelation came as host, James Corden, asked the cast members if any of them had romances off-screen…

“Will you allow me to ask what I would consider a cheeky question. It’s hard not to recognise that you’re all young, hot, good-looking successful actors. It’s inconceivable to me that there weren’t perhaps off screen romances,” he asked.

The cast paused for a moment before Jennifer glanced at David and said: “Well, I mean… David, the first season.”

“The first season… we, I had a major crush on Jen,” David then added.
“It was reciprocated,” Jen confirmed.

And there’s more…

“At some point, we were both crushing hard on each other. But it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary and we both respected that,” David said.

The pair were never allowed to act on their feeling for each other as a strict “no hook up” rule was in place.

But despite this, Jennifer revealed that at the time she didn’t want their first kiss to be “on national television”.
“I remember saying to David ‘it’s gonna be really such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is gonna be on national television’ and sure enough the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop,” she said.

David later admitted that he and Jennifer used to cuddle between scenes…

Before asking the other cast members how they didn’t know the pair were crushing on each other.

But it turns out they did…
