Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have an extensive history together.
The pair have been friends since childhood, meeting and becoming friends while growing up near Boston.
In their professional lives, they’ve collaborated multiple times, including their Oscar-winning debut Good Will Hunting.
After the success of that film, the duo considered going their separate ways, professionally, but it didn’t end up working out that way.
“For a while, we thought maybe we should chill and just do other stuff, and not be Matt and Ben, Matt and Ben,” Affleck said in an interview with Boston Magazine.
“We have our company together, we’re developing together. And Matt lives down the street from me like he used to,” he said of their current lives.
“His kids are living with him, the way we used to live with our folks,” Affleck continued. “The only difference is that we have pools.”
To this day, the duo still has a strong friendship, supporting one another throughout their personal and professional lives.
Matt Damon was even rooting for his BFF and his then-ex, Jennifer Lopez, to rekindle their romance before it was confirmed back in 2021.
“I hope it’s true. I love them both,” Damon said on the TODAY show when asked about the rumors the pair were getting back together.
“I hope it’s true,” he repeated. “That would be awesome.”
Unfortunately, it looks like his feelings toward his friend’s relationship have changed in the years since.
According to a new report, Ben’s longtime friend and collaborator doesn’t see his marriage to J.Lo lasting in the long-run.
While talking to Radar Online, a source claims that Damon has always had his reservations about Lopez.
“Matt’s had serious reservations about Bennifer 2.0 since the beginning,” the source claims.
“He’s tried to be publicly supportive for Ben’s sake, but the fact is he hates the way J Lo treats his buddy and can no longer hold his tongue,” the source continued.
Affleck and Lopez called off their wedding just days before it was supposed to take place in 2003, ending their entire relationship the following year.
Nearly 20 years later, the pair went on to reconcile in 2021, and finally got married last year.
Despite only tying the knot recently, divorce rumors are already swirling.
Apparently, Damon’s rooting for the rumored split, as his disdain for their relationship is getting in the way of his friendship to Affleck.
“It’s no secret Ben and J Lo haven’t been getting along, as he always seems to be in the doghouse,” the source said.
They continued, “It’s obvious something needs to change, but when Matt started giving Ben advice, he totally blew up.”
“History is repeating itself because 20 years ago they stopped talking for the exact same reason,” the source further explained.
“But Matt can’t keep quiet, even if it means alienating Ben,” they went on, adding that Damon sees Lopez as too controlling of her husband.
According to reports, there are multiple sources of tension in Bennifer’s relationship.
One of those is financial pressure, as the pair has been suspected of having financial troubles after securing a mortgage on a mega mansion earlier this year.
There have also been claims that Lopez is bothered by Affleck’s close co-parenting relationship to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three kids.
Obviously, Damon’s alleged disdain for their relationship would only cause further troubles for the couple.
Hopefully, the rumors of a strained relationship aren’t true as the couple gear up to release a new movie together for the first time since 2003.
