After an image went viral of National Guard troops sleeping on the floor in DC, Jill Biden, the new First Lady of the United States, has took it upon herself to pay them a visit - with cookies!
She took the visit in order to say thank you to the troops and to offer her gratitude for keeping her family safe too.

It all started a few weeks back.

Hundreds of rioters forced their way into the prestigious building...
The rioters took over several of the rooms and chambers in the building...
From this, more violence ensued...

The scenes shocked people all over the globe...
Shortly afterward, it was confirmed that there had been fatalities within the Capitol.
It quickly emerged that one female rioter had been shot dead by police...

From the get-go, there were calls for Trump to intervene.

He instead issued a series of tweets...
Where he reminded the rioters that the police and law enforcement was "on our side," and to "remain peaceful."
Hours after his supporters had stormed the Capitol, however, Trump finally released a video telling them, "Go home, we love you, you're very special."
Shortly afterward, all of his social media accounts were suspended indefinitely.
Now, a week on from the violence, people from all across the world remain in a state of shock from what they witnessed...
And the thing that has perhaps saddened people the most was the amount of security and law enforcement working at the Capitol that day who were ruthlessly targeted by the rioters.
So many police officers and security guards had their lives put at risk.

Shocking footage even emerged of a cop being trampled and beaten by the rioters while laying helplessly on the ground.
But, regardless of the risk that the police and security guards were in...
They ultimately saved so many lives on that day with their brave and heroic actions.
And now, a shocking picture has been shared showing the aftermath of the riots...
Members of the National Guard protecting the Capitol were seen trying to get some much-needed sleep, using a cold, marble floor as a bed.
It's the embodiment of the phrase, "No rest for the weary."
The Guard was protecting the building in the wake of the attack after some rioters vowed to murder members of Congress.
With their weapons by their side, these guardsmen and guardswomen know how fragile the peace is...
And, despite enormous security surrounding the building, there is an ongoing, immediate threat.
Some are blaming Donald Trump.

And many are saying that it's his fault for 'turning up the heat'.

As well as the United States Capitol, and many have promised violence.
People were worried about Biden's inauguration.

But thankfully it went to plan pretty smoothly.
The photo of the National Guard sparked outrage in the states.
