But behind the happiness, there were some clear problems.

The couple share 2 children...

But they cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split.

"As you probably know, 2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life," Kelly explained.

"Definitely didn't see anything coming that came. What I'm dealing with is hard. It involves more than just my heart, it involves a lot of little hearts."

She opened up about her children...

"We know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts. So I'm usually very open and I usually talk about everything but in this case I will talk a little bit here and there about how it affects me personally."

"But probably won't go too far into it because I'm a mama bear and my kids come first."

But she promises her new album will be her "most personal" yet.

The star opened up more about how her kids are coping with the split.

During an interview with Extra on Monday, the star revealed how her daughter, River, 6, and son, Remington, 4, are dealing with the changes.

"I have a great family and friends that are there for me. It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else [by speaking up], but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore."

She went on to reveal that her kids are in therapy...

“We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists because we want to do it right," she explained.

She continued:

“Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad."

This week, however, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden has offered the Singer some advice...

She opened up about her own divorce with the singer in a new interview.

"This is what I would say to you if I were your mother," Biden says.

"My mother always said to me, 'Things are going to look better tomorrow. And if you can take one day at a time, things will get better,' " she continues.

Biden divorced her first husband, Bill Stevenson, after 5 years of marriage, before she met Joe Biden in 1975.

"If I hadn't gotten divorced, I never would've met Joe," Biden says. "I wouldn't have the beautiful family I have now, so I really think things happen for the best."

She predicts the same will happen for Clarkson when she's ready.

"I think, Kelly, over time — I don't know how long it's been for you — but, I think, over time you heal and you're going to be surprised," the first lady says. "And I can't wait until that day comes for you."
