Jimmy Kimmel's Emmys Joke Sparks Worldwide Outrage | 22 Words

Viewers have been left outraged after hearing Jimmy Kimmel's "tone deaf" joke at Sunday night's Emmy Awards...

Sunday nights Emmy's looked slightly different than normal.

The show was the latest awards ceremony to go "virtual" amid ongoing lockdown restrictions, but it definitely didn't disappoint.

The ceremony was actually a lot more successful than many expected.

With many praising it for being better than the typical, and sometimes boring, Hollywood awards ceremony.

There were many highlights from the night...

Including the moment Ramy Youssef revealed what happens when you lose. Emmy producers were dispatched to the houses of all the major nominees this year - in a hazmat suit. Once the winner was announced, they would receive a knock at their door and their Emmy would be presented to them live... except if they lost, that is.

We were even treated to a mini Friends reunion.

Could the night get any better?

With no stars, no carpet, and no audience at the Staples Center, the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards decided to keep one element...

...a host.

And it seems late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was chosen to host the event...

The comedian had previously landed the gig in 2012 and 2016.

But Kimmel had a new challenge returning as the host of the award show...

There was no real audience to laugh at his monologue.

And it seems one of his jokes has sparked complete outrage...

Viewers really didn't hold back after hearing it.

Aside from all the incredible winners...

There was one thing that overshadowed the entire night.

During his monologue, Kimmel made a joke that didn't really sit well with viewers.

Viewers were far from happy with the star and didn't hold back with their comments.

The jab in question was directed toward fellow late-night host John Oliver.

After Oliver's acceptance speech for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, Kimmel took a moment to make a quick joke about calling ICE. Yep, really.

Many dubbed the joke as hugely tone-deaf.

For those who don't know, Oliver first came to the United States in 2006 as a correspondent on The Daily Show before becoming a U.S. citizen in December 2019.

It even lead some to turn off the show completely...

Yikes.

It's safe to say...

Kimmel has been faced with huge backlash. And this is far from the only time. Scroll on to find out why he was canceled after a "harrowing" clip resurfaced...
