People clearly aren't very happy with Jennifer Lopez and her inauguration performance! Read on to find out why...
Earlier today, Joe Biden was officially sworn in as the forty-sixth president of the United States...
And even though it was the main part of the inauguration event, some people have shifted their focus to some of the performers who took to the stage earlier today.
Of course, Jennifer Lopez was among those...
And the singer gave a heartfelt performance of "This Land is Your Land."
But it turns out that not everyone was impressed with her performance...
And some fans have even been accusing Jen of "slipping in a reference" to her own music during the song.
But firstly, let's have a quick recap of the events that have unfolded before we got to this historic day.
Since his election victory on November 7th, our country has experienced political tensions like never before.
Most people argue that Biden's win was a fair one...
After 4 long days of vote counting - and plenty of recounting - the Democrat was projected as the forty-sixth President of the United States.
Following his victory, Biden Tweeted this:
America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country.— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) November 7, 2020
The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not.
I will keep the faith that you have placed in me. pic.twitter.com/moA9qhmjn8
"America, I'm honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me."
Democrats all over the country were quick to rejoice...
For them, after 4 long years under the Trump-Pence administration, there was finally light at the end of the tunnel.
However, people on the other side of the political spectrum didn't accept the result so readily.
Donald Trump instantly attacked Biden's win with several unproven accusations of electoral fraud - and, of course, his loyal supporters added fuel to the flames with gusto.
Trump did everything in his power to fight the election result...
And became one of the few president's in history to refuse to concede to his successor.
As the weeks trickled by, political tensions across the country grew...
And, on January 6th, enraged pro-Trumpers took matters into their own hands.
After repeated instructions by Trump to "fight for the White House," hundreds of his supporters stormed the U.S Capitol...
During which a joint session of Congress had convened to formally count the Electoral College votes and certify Joe Biden's election win.
Things very quickly became violent and tragically, 5 people died as a result of the riot.
So, in the run-up to today's inauguration ceremony...
Extra measures were taken to ensure the events of January 6th would not be repeating themselves.
Now, as we all know, Trump didn't attend the ceremony.
He confirmed his absence in a tweet earlier this month before being banned indefinitely from Twitter and instead, he left Washington D.C to travel to Florida on Air Force One this morning.
Trump has become the first president in more than a century to not attend his successor's inauguration.
Only 3 presidents have have done the same, with the last, Andrew Johnson, coming in 1869.
But in the hours following Trump's departure, his successor was officially sworn in.
Joe Biden is now the forty-sixth president of the United States.
His inauguration saw star-studded performances from the likes of Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.
Jennifer performed Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" shortly after Lady Gaga magnificently sang the national anthem.
But although the performance was an emotional and heartfelt one...
Numerous fans have actually been left feeling furious with Jen for "slipping in her own music."
Apparently, near the end of her mashup performance, she recited the final words of the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish - "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" - just before belting out, "Let's get loud."
And while many found it humorous, others weren't so happy.
No, J. Lo did not just throw in a quick “LET’S GET LOUD.” LOLOLOLOL.— Saeed Jones (@theferocity) January 20, 2021
I am absolutely losing my mind at J.Lo adding "Let's Get Loud" into her performance ....— Kalhan (@KalhanR) January 20, 2021
Jlo’s performance was so cringe why did she have to throw in her let’s get loud lyric 🤢— Carol G (@bntzcmoney) January 20, 2021
Did JLo just insert ‘let’s get loud’ at the end 💀 Someone check my pulse— James Kavanagh (@JamesKavanagh_) January 20, 2021
I'm sorry, I just busted out laughing at Jenny's "Let's get loud" remix.— Naima Cochrane (@naima) January 20, 2021
Did anyone else cringe when J.Lo said “let’s get loud” towards the end of the song? Ma’am this is not the time to plug your personal brand.— Grace (@gracexvee) January 20, 2021
Gaga dressed like a Hunger Games sponsor. J Lo worked “let’s get loud” into this land is your land. Everything about this is so extra— Wesley (@WesleyLowery) January 20, 2021
My cat when JLo broke into “Let’s get Loud” 😂 pic.twitter.com/HemrhcnFGU— Sarah Kaplan (@sarahkaplan48) January 20, 2021
But on the other hand, many fans defended Jen's decision to include that line from her own song...
@JLo spoke Spanish saying, “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty & justice for all” & also “Let’s get loud” which is a call to Latinx communities to not be quiet but fight to be heard, similar to what she did during the Super Bowl half-time show. It wasn’t extra.— Samantha Rodriguez (@samantha7108) January 20, 2021
Explaining that "let's get loud" is a call to the latino community to "not be quiet but to fight and be heard."
"Lets get loud" is a call to latinos to be heard. To fight for OUR voice to be heard. She wasn't plugging her song.— AdotBdot (@nettysnow1978) January 20, 2021
J’Lo’s singing felt like a true movie moment taking us into the 3rd Act. A moment we have all been waiting for. pic.twitter.com/ol33EbsGJP— Fawzia Mirza (@thefawz) January 20, 2021

What do you think? Do you think it was fine of her to include this lyric? Or do you think it was inappropriate?
