According to Forbes, he was convicted of trying to hire 2 men to kill activist, Carole Baskin…

As well as that he abused animals at his private Oklahoma zoo, and apparently he shot and killed 5 tigers to make space for more cats.

As per the media outlet, one of the 2 men Exotic hired in 2017 to kill Baskin was in fact an undercover FBI agent.

And although the appeals court left Exotic’s conviction in place, he left his prison sentence back in July, as the lower court should have combined the 2 murder-for-hire attempts during sentencing instead of treating them separately.

She added that he continued to harbor intense feelings of ill toward her.

Meanwhile, his supporters filled the courtroom, and some even wore shirts that read “Free Joe Exotic.”

While Exotic maintained his innocence, according to reports, his attorneys said they planned to appeal against the resentencing and petition for a new trial.

And at the beginning of the year, his attorneys said the treatment he received for prostate cancer would resume after the resentencing.

When the 2020 Netflix documentary was released about him titled Tiger King, Exotic bagged heaps of popularity as the series attracted around 64 million viewers within a month of its release, Variety reports.

The show centered on the contentious relationship between him and Baskin.

And Baskin criticized Exotic’s zoo on many occasions.

The tension between the 2 exploded soon after Exotic named his company Big Cat Rescue Entertainment, which was similar to the name of Baskin’s non-profit, Big Cat Rescue in Florida.

However, Baskin won a $1 million legal battle over the name, and Exotic filed for bankruptcy as he was unable to pay his legal fees.

This led Exotic to hire the 2 men to kill Baskin in 2017 but he failed.

The zoo closed in August 2020 following legal battles over Exotic’s alleged mistreatment of tigers.
