An emotional 911 audio call has been released from the moment Joey Jordison's ex-girlfriend discovered he had died.
During the call, the woman says she's Joey's ex and tells the operator that she opened the garage but hasn't gone inside the house and that the smell is making her think Joey's dead.
The woman said she went to check on Joey as his family hadn't heard from him in days, but she could smell a foul smell coming from inside when she went to go inside the house.
The woman seemed calm and collected at the start of the call, but the reality of what has happened to Joey seems to sink in towards the end. Once the 911 dispatcher asked for his name and date of birth, she was overcome with emotion and began sobbing.
According to a statement from his family, Jordison, co-founder and original drummer of the heavy metal band Slipknot, died "peacefully in his sleep." He was forty-six.
"We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician, and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021," the statement reads.
"Joey's death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart, and his love for all things family and music."
The family will hold a private funeral service and ask the media and public to respect their privacy wishes at this incredibly difficult time.
People have been sharing their tributes to the star since the devastating news came out...
One Twitter user wrote: "I'm in such a dark spot after hearing an incredible drummer who helped inspired me to play hardcore fast-paced drumming. I'm at a loss for words to hear that #joeyjordison has passed away... May you rest, you legend of a drummer. Your drumming skills will be in my heart always. RIP."
While another commented: "RIP to a true legend. I guarantee any drummer you've seen live has been influenced by Joey Jordison in some way or another. Our love and thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time."
Jordison was one of Slipknot's 3 original members and helped power the band to global stardom in the early 2000s during a time when rock and metal acts battled with pop artists to hit the top of the commercial charts.
They burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s with a distinctive look and sound that thrust them into commercial success and led them to become a major influence on later generations.
Jordison's high-speed drumming and incredible songwriting skills were part of the band's best-known tracks.
Rest in peace.
