Lennon was making his way back to his apartment on the Upper West Side with wife Yoko Ono when his killer shot at him.
Lennon had even signed an autograph for his killer earlier that day.

The killer, Mark David Chapman, was sentenced to a twenty-years-to-life sentence.
In records from his 2020 parole meeting, Chapman called his own actions “despicable”. As per CBS, he also said: “I assassinated him … because he was very, very, very famous and that’s the only reason and I was very, very, very, very much seeking self-glory. Very selfish.”

Now aged sixty-seven, Chapman has been denied parole for the twelfth time.

Chapman will next appear before a parole board in 2024.
He has so far served forty-one years inside various correctional facilities across New York.
