Hollywood hotspot Deadline has revealed that Lionsgate has closed a deal for actor Lance Reddick to reprise his role as Charon in the new movie John Wick: Chapter 4.

John Wick is an American neo-noir action thriller franchise about a retired hitman who becomes active again on a quest for vengeance. The first movie was released in 2014 with sequels following in 2017 and 2019. All 3 films were considered commercial and critical successes, with a collective gross of more than $587 million worldwide.

The story follows John Wick (Keanu Reeves) who was an orphan taken in by the Tarasov Russian Mafia and raised as an assassin. He was so ruthless that the mafia boss Viggo Tarasov both respected and feared him. At the beginning of the first film, Wick has been inactive for 5 years, having retired from the Tarasov Russian Mafia.

Charon, the concierge of New York's Continental Hotel, will be the guy who helps Reeves' title character - whether that's fending off bad guys or babysitting Wick's dog, Daisy.

While the hotel facility does operate like a traditional hotel, the Continental serves as a neutral grounds for criminals and murderers, as it's absolutely forbidden for any 'business' to be carried out on the grounds, including fights and murders.

That rule was broken at the end of John Wick: Chapter 2, with Reeves' character, declared "excommunicado" by the organization known as the High Table.

In John Wick: Chapter 3, Charon fights with Wick in the High Table attacks at the hotel. Together the guys take out the strike force with Charon later rejoining Ian McShane's Winston as his bodyguard.

Reddick joins the previously announced cast including Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, and Shamier Anderson. Like the others, It will be directed by Chad Stahelski, who had previously worked as Keanu Reeves' stunt double in The Matrix films.

Stahelski told Deadline: "Lance has been part of the franchise since the very beginning and has had an integral role in shaping the world of John Wick. I couldn't be more excited to be working with him again."

John Wick: Chapter 4 is written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. The movie is currently in production and will shoot this summer in numerous locations in France, Germany, and Japan.

Reddick can currently be seen in the seventh and final season of the Amazon series Bosch and will also star in Netflix's upcoming series Resident Evil. Reddick recently starred in Amazon's 3x Oscar-nominated One Night in Miami and Sylvie's Love. He is represented by Paradigm, Grandview.

No plot details were given for the fourth movie, though Lionsgate is prepping the fifth movie as well, which was originally supposed to shoot back-to-back with John Wick: Chapter 4, but it's not clear when that will start filming now.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to be released in May 2022.
