A judge has denied Derek Chauvin’s lawyer’s request for a new trial just hours before he’s set to be sentenced, NBC News reports.

The former Minneapolis police officer will be sentenced for the murder of George Floyd later today.

Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill, who will sentence Chauvin later, also denied the request for a hearing on jury misconduct.

Legal experts predict the former cop will be sentenced to between twenty and thirty years in prison.
