Kamala Harris will be sworn into office as vice president today, and thousands of supporters are said to be planning to don her classic Chuck Taylors and pearls for the celebration.

But it seems there's a deeper meaning behind the fashion choice...

Now, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' inauguration is just hours away...

And for many, this is a moment that can't come quick enough.

Biden has endured a long and tedious battle for his place in the White House...

Because in 1987, he first decided to run for president but, after suffering from severe headaches during the campaign, he dropped out the following year.

Doctors later discovered that he had 2 life-threatening brain aneurysms.

And, 2 decades after his initial presidential bid...

Biden decided to run for president once again. However, despite his experience in the Senate, his campaign failed to gain momentum.

Last year marked his third run for president...

And saw him go head to head with the notorious President Donald Trump.

It was one hell of a run-up to the election, and of course, the election couldn't have fallen on a worse year! But it powered ahead despite some major setbacks - including Trump's coronavirus diagnosis.

And the votes didn't lie!

After a tense few days of counting (and recounting) votes, it was confirmed that Joe Biden's third run for president had been successful - everyone, meet the forty-sixth president of the United States.

This was a historic win...

Not only because Biden broke Barack Obama's record for the most votes cast for a presidential candidate, but also because vice president-elect, Kamala Harris, will be the first-ever woman of color to be elected in office. Simply amazing.

Of course, Donald Trump didn't take to this news well, at all...

And after continuously claiming the entire election was "a fix" and that he was the actual winner, Trump recently declared that he won't be attending Biden's inauguration - something that didn't come as a surprise to many.

Trump is also facing impeachment following his behavior over the riots held at the U.S Capitol building...

So we can only imagine how much of a rub in the face Biden's success is for the president.

And to make things even more scandalous...

Getty

Trump has refused to attend Biden's inauguration, something that is deemed as very disrespectful in the world of U.S politics.

Nevertheless, Biden accepted his win graciously...

And the president-elect, along with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have been celebrating along with the rest of the country.

Biden will be inaugurated into office today...

Which is mere hours away from now.

Democrats all across the country are eager for the special moment...

Because it's bound to be a historical moment - and that's not just because Trump has refused to attend!

As for the inauguration theme?

Well, it's America United, of course!

"At a time of unprecedented crisis and deep divisions, America United reflects the beginning of a new national journey that restores the soul of America, brings the country together, and creates a path to a brighter future," a statement from the transition team read.

In addition to the theme, 2 Inauguration Day events were announced...

In his first act as president, Biden will lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery.

He will be joined by first lady Jill Biden, Kamala Harris, and her husband, Doug Emhoff...

As well as Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.

Former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton will also participate.

But of course, Biden isn't the only one getting sworn into office...

Kamala Harris will be sworn in alongside Biden, all while making history as the first-ever woman of color to be sworn into office.

And thousands of her supporters will celebrate by wearing her classic Chuck Taylors...

Along with a string of pearls.

The move to wear her classic look first started with the Facebook page Chucks and Pearls Day.

The page description reads: "We love our new VP . . . We want women from all walks of life to honor her by wearing Chucks and pearls on Inauguration Day."

Now, #chucksandpearls is trending on Twitter, with many sporting their favorite pairs.

Pearls are one of Harris's signature accessories, due to her being a former member and supporter of Alpha Kappa Alpha — a member of the Divine Nine and one of the oldest historically Black sororities in the country, she wears them to honor the Twenty Pearls.

As for the Chucks, according to her husband, she's been wearing them from day 1.

"You know, I grew up with Chucks. I just love them. They're comfortable," she said in a recent interview, to which Emhoff added, "When I met her, it was Chucks and jeans."

We can't wait for the event to begin.

Stay tuned for the latest on the big day.
