A crucial piece of the death of three Kansas City Chiefs fans was unveiled through toxicology examinations.
Three Kansas City Chiefs fans were found dead earlier this month.
The bodies of David Harrington, Clayton McGeeney, and Ricky Johnson were found on January 9.
They were discovered two days after they gathered at their friend Jordan Willis’ house to watch a Kansas City Chiefs game.
A shocking discovery
The Kansas City Police Department previously confirmed that a fiancé of one of the men went to look for him.
She immediately called the police when she saw him, discovering his dead body on Willis’ back porch.
Family members later revealed that it was McGeeney’s fiancé who made the discovery.
Police told PEOPLE that after responding to her call, they confirmed they found a dead body.
“Upon further investigation, officers located two other dead bodies in the backyard,” a KCPD spokesperson said.
The department went on to say that there have not been any arrests or charges in this case.
The resident of the home was also said to be “cooperative with detectives the day the deceased were discovered.”
Foul play?
Attorney John Picerno, who is representing Willis, previously told PEOPLE in a statement that his client “is unaware of how his friends died.”
He went on to say that he is “anxiously awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology report.”
An investigation into the deaths is ongoing, and the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, reiterated this week that there are no signs of foul play in this case.
“This still remains a death investigation and nothing more.”
She continued, “We still have no evidence or indication of foul play, no one is in police custody.”
The police have continually made it clear that no arrests or charges have been made in connection with the case.
Willis speaks out
Willis, the friend whose house they gathered at, now claims to have slept for nearly 48 hours after the game.
He went on to say that he was unaware of the bodies until the police conducted a welfare check.
According to an anonymous source speaking to Fox Nation, Willis is currently facing intense scrutiny without concrete details, evidence, or any charges against him.
Being targeted in the crime has reportedly left him “devastated” and “depressed.”
The source, who claims to be a friend of Willis, stated: “Not only is the whole country accusing him of murdering his friends without factual details, evidence or any charges at this time, but he also lost three close friends.
The source went on to say that Willis wasn’t even able to mourn his friends’ death properly.
“He didn’t get to say goodbye or go to their funerals due to the circumstances of these wild speculations and accusations,” they told the outlet.
Now, amid all of the public scrutiny, Willis has checked into rehab.
The 38-year-old is “facing his addiction head-on,” a source close to the family told Fox News Digital, calling the deaths of his friends an “enormous wakeup call.”
“After the shocking loss of three of his close friends under extremely tragic circumstances, Jordan recognized that he had a problem with addiction,” the source said, not elaborating on the exact addiction.
“He immediately checked himself into rehab after vacating his home and putting his things into storage,” they continued.
Willis who was wearing underwear and holding a wine glass when police arrived. claimed to have been asleep for nearly two days.
The toxicology reports of the deceased men are still pending, though two of them were supposedly seen arriving at Willis’ with two 30-packs of beer.
Waemer-Lee is also alleged to have texted other friends about drug use at Willis’ house during the watch party.
Experts have indicated that alcohol or drugs like fentanyl could have caused the men to pass out in the snow and succumb to the 30-degree weather, according to Fox.
Some family members of the Chiefs fans have suggested that Willis’ profession as a HIV scientist has something to do with their deaths.
“I’m thinking that he, the three of them learned something or saw something that they shouldn’t have seen, and he decided, ‘Well, I need to get rid of you now.’ Friends or not,” one family member speculated.
Meanwhile, the source close to the Willis family vehemently denied such speculations.
He called the “mad scientist agenda” absurd and insisted that Willis’ profession is completely irrelevant to the case.
Going on to address questions about Willis not noticing the bodies for two days, the source explained that Willis’ dog was not at the house during that time, as it serves as a therapy dog for his father, who is battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Though he was living in a nearby rental home until recently, Willis left due to fear of “retaliation” amid media coverage and threats.
The source has insisted that Willis is cooperating with the police and remains a “good guy” while facing vitriol from the public.
The investigation is not currently being treated as a crime.
Unveiling the Grim Reality: The Toxicology Results
A ripple of shock spread as the toxicology outcomes were released.
The examinations revealed the presence of multiple substances within the systems of the three men. Among these were cocaine and other illicit drugs.
This discovery intensified the intrigue surrounding the case, fueling further conjecture about the factors contributing to their demise.
Cocaine, THC and a Deadly Level of Fentanyl
To the dismay of their grieving families, multiple substances were identified in the toxicology examinations.
Cocaine, THC, and an alarmingly high level of fentanyl were among the substances discovered.
A family member, requesting anonymity, revealed that the level of fentanyl found in their systems was at a Level 30 – three times the dose deemed lethal.
The information was later confirmed by a separate family source.
A Fifth Friend’s Departure and Alleged Texts
A fifth individual, Alex Waemer-Lee, had also attended the gathering.
He left around 11 p.m., after which the four remaining men reportedly began watching the popular game show, “Jeopardy!”.
Waemer-Lee allegedly sent text messages to other friends about substance use at Willis’ house during the game, adding an additional layer to the narrative.
The Police Statement and Investigation
Kansas City Police stated that no additional details of the case or reports had been revealed to any media.
They emphasized that the case was not being investigated as a homicide and no foul play was suspected.
However, this assertion did not alleviate the concerns of the deceased men’s families, who still harbored suspicions about Willis’ potential involvement in their loved ones’ deaths.
The Controversy and Suspicions
Despite the police’s insistence that the case was not being treated as a homicide, some family members of the deceased believe that Willis may have played a part in their loved ones’ demise.
Jon Harrington, father of David Harrington, expressed his conviction that Willis had some role in the incident. He questioned how Willis could be the sole survivor among the four men who were in the house.
The Search for Answers
Jonathan Price, the brother of Ricky Johnson, has been tirelessly seeking answers since the discovery of his brother’s body.
He criticized the police for their apparent lack of knowledge at this point in the investigation. He asserted that if the police had ruled out foul play so early on, they should be able to provide a more substantial explanation to the grieving families.
Looking Forward
While the toxicology results have unveiled grim details about the substances found in the systems of the three fans, the mystery surrounding their tragic demise continues to linger.
The police maintain their stance that no foul play is suspected, and the case remains an ongoing death investigation.
As the community and the nation await further details, the tragic incident serves as a chilling reminder of the potential dangers of substance abuse.
