Kate Hudson is letting fans in on a personal moment between her family in honor of her mother’s birthday.
The Glass Onion actress took to Instagram to celebrate her “magnificent” mother Goldie Hawn’s birthday. The Hollywood icon turned 78 on Tuesday, November 21.
What better way to celebrate such a momentous occasion than to take a walk down memory lane? Hudson did just that by posting a sweet video filled with glimpses of memories she has made with her mom.
The sweet video contained so many important moments in the mother-daughter-duo’s life. The compilation includes photos of the pair traveling, posing next to a campfire, and decorating a Christmas tree.
In one hilarious clip, Hawn can be seen dancing on a boat as her daughter cheered her on.
“Look at my mom going for it,” Kate says in the video to encourage her mom.
“A woman who is easy to celebrate,” Hudson wrote in her Instagram caption. “Happiest Birthday to the most fun, beautiful and inspiring mother ✨.”
She continued, “We love you big time Gogo 🎉🎂🥳 Join me in using one word to describe what Gogo means to you and shout out a big HBD 🎁 My word for you today @goldiehawn is 💫MAGNIFICENT💫.”
Fans and fellow celebs jumped into the comments section to wish Goldie a happy birthday, letting her know just how loved she truly is. Hudson’s birthday post for her mom got nearly 10,000 comments, with everyone gushing over their love for the actress.
“Happy Birthday to Goldie Hawn! My special word for her is ‘Beaming,'” one fan commented. “She has the warmest and welcoming smile that lights up the room and spreads happiness!”
Another one of Kate’s followers commented: “I don’t know if there’s a woman alive who wouldn’t have loved to be the daughter of Goldie Hawn! How lucky you are!”

Anyone who has ever seen a Kate Hudson interview knows just how much she values her relationship with her mother. In March 2022, she spoke to PEOPLE about just how much Hawn has helped her personal growth.
“My mom has always been an inspiration to me and, in so many ways, the foundation for my values,” Hudson said at the time. “There’s no doubt that I inherited her love for life and all of its experiences, big and small,” she said.
Kate had a similar sentiment to share for her mother earlier this year, when she celebrated another holiday honoring her mom. For Mother’s Day, Hudson thanked the woman who raised her for letting her and her siblings have “freedom” and “be wild.”
“My Mama didn’t wait around to get the perfect pic,” Hudson wrote in her tribute. “In fact she has few pics of all of us together because she let us run around and be in the moment.”
She continued, “The ones she does are always a little silly, a little blurry, half smiles, half cries, chocolate faces and unbrushed hair. She gave us freedom, let us be wild, loved us endlessly and we got the pictures to prove it. I love you Mama. Happy Mothers Day!”
Beside her role as a mother, Goldie Hawn has also contributed a lot to the world of entertainment. She rose to fame on the NBC sketch comedy program Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, before going on to receive the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Cactus Flower.
Throughout her career, she appeared in such films as There’s a Girl in My Soup (1970), Butterflies Are Free (1972), The Sugarland Express (1974), Shampoo (1975), Foul Play (1978), Seems Like Old Times (1980), and Private Benjamin (1980), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing the title role.
She later went on to star in Overboard (1987), Bird on a Wire (1990), Death Becomes Her (1992), Housesitter (1992), The First Wives Club (1996), The Out-of-Towners (1999), and The Banger Sisters (2002). Hawn made her return to film with roles in Snatched (2017), The Christmas Chronicles (2018), and The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020).
In addition to Kate, Hawn is also the mother of actors Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell. She has been in a relationship with Kurt Russell since 1983, though the pair have never tied the knot.
Hawn has clearly had a very successful career, also seeing her children follow in her acting footsteps. But, despite that becoming the family business, Goldie has said that she never actually wanted to be a movie star.
Back in 2022, she sat down with Willie Geist to take a look back at her Hollywood career. But it was then that the 76 year old admitted that she didn’t ever want to be an actress.
“I didn’t want to be a movie star, first of all,” she said at the time. “I just felt people in LA, in the movie industry that they we all…messed up. I didn’t want to be like that. I was a happy person.”
Goldie first began her career as a dancer. Since her mother owned a dance studio, Hawn had been dancing since she was only three years old.
The star ended up being so successful with her dancing, however, that all of her dancing gigs eventually led her land her first role on the 1960s TV hit Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-in.
While many people probably think stumbling upon such fame would be a great experience, that wasn’t the case for Hawn. She says that the unexpected catapult into the entertainment industry actually brought her a lot of anxiety.
“I started getting anxious and then I started getting panic attacks,” Goldie revealed. “I was so scared about what was going on with me that I saw a doctor. I wanted to get happy again! My intention was not to live this way.”
Because of her anxiety, Goldie wound up seeing a doctor for eight years, which helped her continue her career into acting and producing films. Still, she eventually ended up taking a long acting hiatus —a 15-year break—to pursue her new purpose of helping children with mental health and fitness through her company “Mind Up,” which she founded in 2003.
“I wanted to create something that children can access in teachers all over the world because we need to build a kinder world that actually has greater capacity for critical thinking,” she said. “There’s no time like now to have a solution. “
The Oscar-winning actress revealed earlier this year that she first recognized the need to help kids learn how to process their emotions more than 20 years ago. The realization happened as she was reeling in the aftermath of the events of 9/11 and saw distress among children.
“I was crying into the American flag – that I was knitting, by the way – (and) trying to figure out what I could do,” Hawn told CNN in a phone interview in March. “I started this program because I thought children needed to be happier. What I didn’t realize is that happier wasn’t a problem. The way to happiness is by creating stability, creating hope.”
