Now, ever since Kesha hit the music scene back in early 2009, she’s been adored by thousands of fans.

She first came to fame in 2009 after featuring on American rapper Flo Rida’s single, ‘Right Round’.
Since then we’ve seen her propelled to the top of charts with tunes including ‘Tik Tok’, ‘Blah Blah Blah’, and ‘Your Love Is My Drug’.

At one point, she even gained the title of best-selling digital single in history with ‘Tik Tok’.
Fans have followed her every move as her career went from strength to strength.

As they fell in love with not only her music, but also her daring style.
But, fame and success hasn’t always been a positive thing for Kesha…

The star has been involved in a legal dispute with her former producer Dr. Luke since 2014.
Known to many as, Kesha v. Dr. Luke, the pair have battled back and forth in a series of lawsuits.

Kesha accused Dr. Luke of physical, s*xual, and emotional abuse and employment discrimination.
While he sued Kesha and her mom for defamation and breach of contract.

Of course, fans have always had her back…
Until now.
Despite playing her songs on repeat for years, it turns out fans have only just noticed the correlation between one of her popular tracks and the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

The lyrics have caused quite the debate online.
The new Netflix original series that everyone seems to be talking about is called Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

It’s pretty straightforward as to what the series is about…
The story of one of the world’s most notorious serial killers, who murdered seventeen men and boys from 1978 to 1991, told from the perspective of his victims.

In the series, Dahmer is played by actor Evan Peters.
Since the show dropped, fans have noticed that Kesha’s 2010 song ‘Cannibal’ actually refers to Dahmer.

And many have found her lyrics problematic.
One Twitter user wrote: “Just remembered how gross that lyric in ‘Cannibal’ by Kesha is. no shade to her she’s great. same with Evan Peters, great actor but fuck this man should not be immortalized.”

Another tweeted: “It’s vile… the song ‘Cannibal’ by Kesha is literally about him she even says his name on it… there’s several others but I can’t remember what they’re called. His deaf victim is so heartbreaking.”
In the song, Kesha sings: “Your little heart goes pitter-patter, I want your liver on a platter.

“Be too sweet and you’ll be a goner, yeah, I’ll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer.
“I eat boys up, breakfast and lunch, then when I’m thirsty, I drink their blood.

“Carnivore, animal, I am a cannibal. I eat boys up, you better run.”
TikTok has also picked up on the song, with users sharing their disgust at her lyrics…

One user wrote: “Has anyone looked up the lyrics to this song? So insensitive to Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims.”
“I never noticed, but using his name like some token in a song is insensitive to the victims and their families,” another said.

Since then, Kesha’s mom has spoken out against the people who have slammed her daughter…
According to PEOPLE, Kesha’s mom, Pebe Sebert, who was a singer and songwriter, shared a video on TikTok to discuss how Dahmer’s name became incorporated into her daughter’s famous track.

In the caption, she wrote: “Some context on the lyric that’s bothering people 12 years later. All opinions are valid. Not meant to shut anyone down, just more info.”
“The whole Jeffrey Dahmer lyric in ‘Cannibal’ is a big controversy right now,” Sebert began in the video.

“I thought I’d just say a few things about it because that was my line that I wrote in ‘Cannibal,'” she said.
Sebert even said that her daughter and the writer were too young to know about Dahmer.
“At the time, Kesha and the other writer were too young to even know who Jeffrey Dahmer was. Literally, the way it happened is I have this rhyming program called Master Writer for Songwriters. We were looking for a rhyme for ‘goner,’ at the very end of the widest rhymes was Jeffrey Dahmer. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s a perfect lyric…’

“Not to be insensitive to anybody whose families were involved in this and lost loved ones. At the time, it was a song that we were writing about Kesha. It was a tongue-in-cheek funny song. It was not actually about cannibalism. It was just a title,” she continued.
“I’m sorry for anyone who’s lost a family member in this tragedy,” Sebert added.

“We certainly never meant to hurt anybody or make anybody feel bad. There’s a [series] out right now that’s kind of bringing attention back. The song’s been out for more than 10 years, probably almost 12 years. This is not something that we’ve recently written.”
Sebert even noted that “Jeffrey Dahmer was just part of the culture back then,” and everyone used to talk about him…
“Everybody talked about him for many years. What he’d done was so extreme, and so worse than anyone had ever done that anybody knew about,” she concluded.
