Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are one of the world's best-loved couples and for good reason too - they're always keeping it real with us. But recently, Bell has found herself in the hot seat after fans accuse the star of racism because of her new children's book.
Do you think it was a well-intentioned mistake or a consequence of her lack of education on the matter? Keep scrolling to see the video that sparked all the drama...
We all love Kristen Bell, right?
via: Getty ImagesThe comedy star is well known for roles on Veronica Mars, Gossip Girl, and The Good Place.
She's married to Dax Shepard.
via: Getty ImagesShepard is a multitalented actor, writer, director, and podcast host.
The pair met in 2007.
via: Getty ImagesThey've been together for a long time - but decided to delay their marriage until California legalized same-sex marriage in 2013. What a couple of cuties!
They're known for being the definition of couple goals. They're incredibly cute together, and can often be spotted in adorably intimate public displays of affection.
They've always avoided becoming a boring married couple. They're very open about how they want to remain young and fun, even as they grow old together. Adorable.
But that isn't to say that they make it look easy. What's fantastic about Shepard and Bell is how open they are about how much work it takes to make a successful marriage.
The couple are open about both marriage and parenthood. And, though they make both look like great fun, they also admit that it's not always rosy. In fact, the pair have admitted to being enrolled in couple's therapy to make sure that they make it work.
But make it work, they do.And talking about the difficulties of marriage and parenthood only serve to normalize these issues and make everyone feel a bit better about their imperfect lives.
Shepard has also been open about other struggles.
And Bell has always been supportive of his journey.Having an addict partner is never easy, so we take our hats off to Bell for constantly standing by Shepard's side. Honestly, these two are just the best.
In fact, Bell is incredibly supportive of Shepard.
It doesn't seem like anything could bring the pair down.
And once such source reached out to Shepard last year.
Not only is this clearly an invasion of privacy...But it also seems to be the vaguest story ever ...? They're having troubles, because of Dax's past substance abuse issues, but they're also fine? Huh?
Shepard gave the picture the perfect caption.
via: InstagramSometimes, the best way to take down a nonsense story is to treat it like it's totally accurate. It only serves to depict the true absurdity of the lies.
But then things got even better.
via: InstagramKristen Bell commented on the Instagram post "admitting" her "guilt" in terms of leaking the dirty details of their marriage to the media.
But she offered him a helpful solution.
via: InstagramWe'd love to see the response of this magazine if Dax had actually taken Kristen's advice in terms of response.
(Just FYI, Bell is joking. There's clearly no actual source for the story.)But wow, what a way to prove to doubters wrong. Not only are they still doing great - but we all know: the couple who trolls on social media together, stays together.
But Bell's latest stunt may have just earned her a cold shoulder from her fans...
via: Getty ImagesWith everything going on in the world, it seems as though the star wanted to do her bit to instill some peace while simultaneously educating young children about social issues.
However, things didn't go quite to plan.
via: Getty ImagesBell was immediately slammed for "encouraging" colorblindness amongst children and promoting a way of ignoring different attitudes towards race.
The book is called The World Needs More Purple People...
via: Getty ImagesAnd it tells the story of a "purple person" who looks for similarities rather than differences in people. Have we not learned anything in the past few weeks? Keep scrolling for the full video so you can see Bell's full explanation.
And it seems as though a lot of people agreed...

"Purple skin, white masks."This user's comment garnered thousands of likes.
Some people even went on to accuse her of just pushing yet another dismissive narrative...

While I do believe the reasons behind the book were well-intentioned, here's the problem.
via: Getty ImagesColorblindness purposefully eradicates black and brown experiences. It makes white people think that there is no difference between races when we're fully aware that systematic oppression is targeted towards non-white folks.
via: Getty ImagesColorblindness will only work once the problems in our society have been fully wiped out and then we can work towards it... And even then, it's still problematic.
So Kristen, maybe leave this one in the drafts...
