In the weird world of Hollywood romances, one couple stands out above the rest - Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, of course!

And now they've opened up about their relationship success...

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are the ultimate couple goals.

They've been together since 1983 - and are still very much in love to this very day.

They've worked together in films including Swing Shift, Overboard, The One and Only, Genuine, and Original Family Band.

They also share one son, Wyatt Russell, born in 1986.

But one facet that many question about the pair's relationship?

Why haven't they tied the knot?!

They've been together for over thirty years...

And share a child, careers, and multiple properties around the world.

Yet they've never felt the need to put a ring on it.

But in a tell-all interview with PEOPLE, the couple has now opened up about their reasons behind never marrying...

Clearly, attraction is important.

"[I was] impressed with Goldie visually... The images of her were alluring and attractive, so all those things were taking place," Russell explained.

But, obviously, looks aren't everything.

"But then you get to know somebody and you begin to find that, yeah, you do share things in common deeply. Hey, listen, it goes where it goes."

"You’ve just got to want to be together," Hawn, agrees.

"I don’t think there’s any way other to do it."

And as for the lack of marriage?

"For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have," Russell explained.

"I don’t know. Forty years isn’t enough to finally say, 'Well I guess...'"

Hawn echoed the sentiment. "Our children got married. I mean, they didn’t not get married. Oliver’s very happily married and Wyatt’s very happily married. Katie got married once and that didn’t work, and she’s with this most amazing human and I don’t know if she’ll marry again. The point is that we all tried marriage and sometimes marriage doesn’t work."

"It’s okay. It’s not about the marriage."

"It’s about the people and the relationship, and the will to stay together."

"And that’s a big one because if you want it, you can have it."

"You’ve got to give things up, but the joy and the excitement of being together and touching the toes of somebody at night is really a nice feeling."

"That feeling of gratitude is important, because it’s good for your brain and your heart and your health."

"It’s a good thing to pass on."

We love a romance with a happy ending!
