Kylie Jenner Ties With Jay-Z for the 5th Wealthiest Celebrity in America

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are well acquainted by internet darling Kylie Jenner. The 21-year-old entrepreneur and reality star’s wealth has been generated mostly from her insanely popular makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics.

The line launched first as a collection of lip kits (liquid lipstick paired with a matching lip liner) in 2015 and blossomed into a full lown cosmetics line in 2016.

According to Business Insider, “Forbes conservatively listed the company at $800 million, with an estimated $330 million in sales in 2017.”

That’s a lot of cheddar.

Jenner, who happens to the company’s sole owner, is also the face of the brand, which has helped catapult it to international stardom.

Jenner has 122 million followers on Instagram alone, and often uses personal, casual videos of herself using the makeup line to generate buzz. Spoiler alert: it works.

In July, Forbes named Jenner as the 27th richest self-made woman in the US. She actually earns quite a bit more than her famous sisters now.

But people felt that the “self-made” moniker wasn’t fair. Even though she built her makeup empire from nothing, she had a ton of fame and wealth to begin with. This is no rags to riches story, no matter how you spin it.

So now down to brass tacks. Jenner was listed by Forbes as being the 5th wealthiest celebrity in the US, tied with none other than Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z.

The part about this that gives me whiplash is that Jenner is 21 and Jay-Z is a 49-year-old artist whose prolific career spans decades. Jay-Z founded Roc-A-Fella Records in 1995, then co-founded Rocawear, and according to Business Insider, owns an “upscale sports bar and nightclub in Manhattan called the 40/40 Club.” The icing on the cake is that he owns the parent company of music streaming service Tidal, which is reportedly worth around $600 million.
