Following the heartbreaking loss of Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright has shared a heartbreaking tribute to the star.
Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer back in 2020.
The heartbreaking news of Chadwick Boseman’s death was unveiled by his family as they posted on his many social media channels on August 28th.
The statement read, “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.”
It also explained that the actor had been battling colon cancer for 4 years since his diagnosis in 2016.
And a recent tribue has left the internet feeling moved.
The actress played Boseman’s on-screen sister in Black Panther – and her eulogy to the star is nothing short of heartbreaking.
“Every time I see Chadwick my heart breaks. Such an amazing talent taken far too soon,” one fan wrote.
“This is such a bittersweet movie. I’ll definitely watch it but my heart hurts for Chadwick’s family and friends. He is deeply missed,” added another.
Both on-screen and off-screen, Boseman’s career was truly remarkable.
And in a serious variety of genres.
From playing James Brown in the biopic Get On Up, to the ancient Egyptian deity Thoth in Gods of Egypt.
Most recently, Boseman starred in 21 Bridges (2019) alongside Sienna Miller and Spike Lee’s Netflix film, Da 5 Bloods (2020).
But he is best known as the main role in Black Panther as T’Challa / Black Panther.
Black Pather completely revolutionized the film industry.
Back in 2018, Black Panther became the talk of the town as it hit all major big-screens purely because we’d never seen anything quite like it before.
Marvel’s superhero movie brought cultural importance to the forefront of a storyline while still maintaining the classic “hero vs villain” trope.
With black talent spread across the entire cast and production, Black Panther became more than just a social talking point. It became an artistic celebration of black culture.
The genre typically upholds traditional superhero visuals, as seen with Superman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, and Batman, just to name a select few…
But Black Panther saw a whole new story brought to life.
A culture that was once seen as other, brought about celebration in a way that actually brought audiences together to share their love for the genre.
In such a strong line-up of actors and actresses, we saw the fusion of old and new black actors including Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Letitia Wright.
And The Guardian described Boseman as a man who helped to “[open] up people’s minds.”
And fans loved his optimism and eagerness to change the standards of Hollywood.
But Boseman’s health quickly became a concern for fans …
He passed away from colon cancer in August 2020.
Confirming his passing on August 28th, a statement written by his family read:
“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much.”
“From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.”
“It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”
“He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. “
“The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Fellow Black Panther star Angela Bassett spoke of how inspiring Boseman was:
“This young man’s dedication was awe-inspiring, his smile contagious, his talent unreal… All you possessed, Chadwick, you freely gave. Rest now, sweet prince.”
Chris Evans wrote on Twitter:
“I’m absolutely devastated. This is beyond heartbreaking. Chadwick was special. A true original. He was a deeply committed and constantly curious artist. He had so much amazing work still left to create. I’m endlessly grateful for our friendship. Rest in power, King.”
While his on-screen sister Letitia Wright posted a beautiful message.
“You told me that you were my brother and I am to love you as such and I always did and I always will, but now my heart is broken, searching for old messages of exchange, cards filled with your handwriting and memories of you holding my hand as if it was for eternity.”
And now, more than two years on, Letitia Wright has made another beautiful tribute to Boseman.
It happened on the red carpet for the upcoming movie Wakanda Forever.
She posed on the red carpet in a similar outfit Boseman wore to the Black Panther premiere.
And even gave the Wakanda salute.
“I’m bracing .. I’ve seen some members of Chad’s team. When we lock eyes, we know how this feels. We have to take a step away.”
” I see my aunt locking my eyes with me, she’s very proud. I have to take a step away… We’re trying to hold it together,” she shared.
